INNOSON THE FIRST MADE IN NIGERIA CARS,BUSES ,TRUCKS VIDEO & PHOTOS
Story by Mufutau Omolewa
Click for Full Image Size The youngest among six children, Chief (Dr) Innocent Ifediaso Chukwuma (OFR), was born into the family of Mr & Mrs Chukwuma Mojekwu of Uru-Umudim, Nnewi, in Anambra State, without the proverbial silver spoon in his mouth.

But, what he lacked in affluent parental background, he made up for with intelligence, hard-work, discipline and business acumen – qualities that have continued to interplay remarkably in his many ventures.

In February 2007, Chukwuma embarked on what some analysts perceived then as a mission impossible, when it incorporated INNOSON Vehicle Manufacturing Company Limited (IVM), to produce sundry commercial automobiles, utility vehicles and passenger cars, in collaboration with a consortium of Chinese auto manufacturers.

With the public display of some of the vehicles at the 2nd Nnewi International Auto Trade Fair held at the Beverly Hills Hotels (Gabros Sports Complex) in the last quarter of 2009, IVM did not only silence the critics, but made a bold statement about its readiness to achieve the avowed mission of being the first (indigenous) auto maker to produce truly Nigerian vehicles that are affordable and reliable.

IVM is today a success story which has attracted effusive commendations and awards from various quarters, including the nation’s seat of power. While opening the plant on October 15, 2010, President Goodluck Jonathan not only hailed Chukwuma for the courage of venturing into an industry many ran away from, but also assured him of government’s patroage from the government.

Maximum Respect to IGBO PEOPLE

Nneoma, proud to be an IGBO? Not proud to be a 9ja? hmmmmmm. We never doubted the technological ability of the Igbo's and these abilities are abundant all over the country whether Igbo, Hausa or Yoruba we all have our distinctive competencies. The problems we face are from our non visionary and wicked leaders.

WAIT TILL FEMI FANI KAYODE READS THIS!... HE WILL BEGIN TO TELL YOU THE YORUBAS ARE FIRST AT EVERYTHING EVEN THOUGH Professor Kenneth Dike WAS THE FIRST AFRICAN VC OF UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN, AND Professor Eni Njoku WAS THE FIRST AFRICAN VC OF UNILAG. LIKEWISE, THE FIRST NIGERIAN PROFESSOR OF MEDICINE WAS Professor Kodilinye. He was appointed a Professor of Medicine at the University of London in 1952.

IGBOS ARE BORN FOR GREATNESS - WE ARE DYNAMIC INNOVATORS RIGHT FROM DR NNAMDI AZIKIWE DAYS TO THE PRESENT DAY*

AS DAVID MARK SENATE PRESIDENT SAID WHEN OJUKWU DIED: 'during the Nigerian civil war, the Igbo's refined their own oil, which they used to fuel their cars throughout the war; IT BOGGLES THE MIND THAT SO MANY DECADES LATER, WE AS A NATION HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DO THIS'!

I rest my case*

Congrats for making Nigeia Proud with you innovation and Achievement, but i beg to ask this Question, Why then does the Federal Govt Headed By GEJ still import their so called Machines or state Of the Art Cars from Abroad. Why not Patronise Nigerian Made. Charity they say begins from Home. Lets start seeing the President,Governors , House of Rape (Sorry I mean House of Rep),Senators, LG chairmen etc buy and Use Nigerian made cars, then we will be heading in the right direction, but bcos we will all know the cost of the cars and no price inflated, they will not. So Sorry for Chief (Dr) Innocent Ifediaso Chukwuma because na poor people like us go patronise u. Food for Thought!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I rest my Case.

I alway have this thought in my mind that are we actually united in diversity of culture?Frankly speaking,'NO'.I wonder why the Nigeria govt never allowed Biafra as a nation to secceed, for Christ or Allah sake we are not united,Nigeria shd be allowed to split.Come to think of it,why will the Igbos be seperating themselves on the achievement that suppose to be for the entire nation called Nigeria.Really if the breakthrough came from the Yorubas or the Hausas, they will actually say the same.My view, nigeria as a nation should be allowed to be seperated,if we want to grow as an individual entity, because we never share anything in common that can permit us to stand as a nation.Thank you.

First and foremost, glory be to almighty God for making this impossible mission possible. Secondly, i really give big kudos to Chief Innocent Chukwuma resilience and perseverance for the first vehicle manufactured in Nigeria, which will definitely boost our economy, by reducing unemployment rate, making our currency stronger through export and less dependent on foreign vehicles. Now, Chief Innocent Chukwuma has had his qouta to Nigeria advancement in tecnology. Success has never been easy, let us give him 100% support by beleiving in our self through puchasing these products starting from individual up gorverment level. Let me remind you people that USA beleive in themself, most of thier gorverment parastatal use American vehicles(police, fire, etc)

Please for those posting useless Tribalism comments about Ndigbo achievement and praising the Igbo Clan becos this amiable Chief Innocent Chukwuma is from the East, u guys had better have a rethink n stop those comments cos these is the mind set that we have in Nigeria that is causing disaffection and numerous problems for us. I feel pained n worried that citizens of our great country still think along this line of thought of Tribal n Ethnic divide in most issues concerning us. Imagine an individual building what a whole 9ja government could not do for years. Not even with any form of government support. Am proud to be associated with innocent group. May your blessings continue to grow and multiply in abundance. God will strike down with thunder any soul who is not happy with this success. This is a Nigerian success, not an Igbo nation success. Am proudly Yoruba and also happy for this success. Shame on all those foreign author firms who give s****d excuse of inadequate electricity for doing nothing. If this vehicles are sold for N5m each it worth the price, let us support our own things and stop this blind criticism. let us rally round this company to gain support and sieze to import the scraps into this country.

Nigeria is blessed with intellects.
Many have not had the courage, exposure and other means to bring their work to limelight.
This will serve as an encouragement for others to continue in this vein.
Congrats to Inno,Igbo and Nigeria as a whole.
Let all patronise this commendable venture and Nigeria will be at the centre of the whole world.
Ministry of science and technology please do all within your power to bring out the under priviledge brains and many more will be seen.

BUT I HAVE PROBLEM WITH THE COMMENTS SOME PEOPLE MADE EARLIER, THIS IS A NIGERIAN THING AND NOT JUST THE IGBOS. ARE THE CARS MADE FOR ONLY IGBO TO BUY ALONE? WHY ARE YOU MAKING SUCH STATEMENTS THAT CAN FURTHER DIVIDE THE COUNTRY. I WILL THEREFORE ADVICE OUR IGBO ELDERS TO PLEASE WORK HARD TO CHANGE THIS DESPICABLE ORIENTATION OF AVERAGE IGBO YOUTH WHO ARE ALWAYS QUICK TO INSULT OTHER TRIBES WHEN ONE IGBO PERSON ACHIEVE GOOD THINGS. Henry Rolands | 2/13/2014 8:03:30 AM |
For the Igbos, they have every right to be proud and you too.Imagine being discriminated against in your own country, and by your own country men. When the war ended by the United nations and OAU. Gowan came up with no Victor no vanquished. Then Awolowo was the finance minister and came up with the idea that all Igbos if you have a billion naira they will only exchange it for 20 naira. That further impoverished a people who already have been devastated by the war.
While our fellow country men were busy putting us down as much as they wanted.
Think about it.
INNOSON
Sylvester Okoye | 2/2/2014 3:00:58 PM
In most sincerity, these trash of tribal jingoism are of the most low spirits, depraved and bereaved cynics who never mean well to any one= not even to INNOSON.
By stigmatizing the fine idea and the Nigerian dream= INNOSON= these enemies of genuine innovation are out to kill the marketing of the Nigerian breakthrough with the venom of their stunted mind set in the name of tribal euphoria or whipping up of hatred of others.
What should be the pride of anyone's place in this Nigerian project called INNOSON is to aspire to buy and use ANY OF THE IVMs, whether as an individual, corporate or government.
When INNOSON succeeds other Nigerian talents will berth, or how would you feel when next you travel abroad the taxi carrying you is a Nigerian brand, car made in Nigeria?

Technology and the Igbos
Henry Rolands | 2/13/2014 6:40:17 AM
Thanks for the Igbos. The best is yet to come . Barely less than 5 years Jonathan became president Nigeria is now talking about building cars.let us face the truth ,these past leaders except late murtala mohammed and my beloved Idiagbo. The rest was a bunch of waste who wasted our economy to their own shame and the shame of their mother.
They have very fat bank accounts in Switzerland and may not even recover the money when they die.

It took so long not because the Igbos could not, but because they were being marginalized. Their businesses being destroyed, major opportunities escape them. Unequal distribution of national wealth etc.
But the creator have crowned them with glory and honor . They can live anywhere in Nigeria have love for all Nigerian and develope their business regardless of tribe.
I call on all Nigerians to recognize the gift almighty God has given to Nigeria (the Igbos ) treat them with love and respect , support their efforts for the good of our country. You can't change what God has put together.
During the civil war the biafrans built small jet called the baby biafra. They built a very dangerous weapon called" sure battery" which was capable of sinking any ship no matter the size. They also converted palm oil to petroleum to drive cars this just to list a few. The Federal government out s****dity, f*****hness, Nepotism And Tribalism Left The War Memorial In Umahia to become useless and the historical items that should be a tourist attraction to become obsolete. How f*****h can you be ? f**ls don't you understand that tourism is a huge industry in the USA and Europe which is your safe haven. Other nations are hungry to safely visit Nigeria and spend money.
Give Igbos a chance to fix it for you. (Yes hard truth to swallow)

Every society that wants
to become great must have a plan. Let us all begin to plan Nigeria if we are to be a nation. I am thankful to God that I am privileged to see it in my life time. That the Igbos despite the enemies surrounding them that the God of our fathers have not forgotten his promises to Abraham. Nigerians can now aspire to greatness and the highest dream. Not just drive or enjoy things made in other countries but to be bold and proud that we can make it ourselves. The spirit of dumb and confusion has been broken and the chain of mental slavery is also broken. We can build, any thing . We can build airplane, design anything to the glory of God go forth
Igbos and fellow Nigerians that love peace and prosperity.

ENEMIES OF IVMs
Sylvester Okoye | 2/14/2014 6:41:24 PM
The substance of all this tribal euphoria of the innovative enterprise of innoson's IVM will be for the 'so enthralled Igbo jingoists' to show their true nationalism by making and using IVM motors as vehicle of FIRST CHOICE. Otherwise, they should leave out self pity, inferiority complex and hypocrisy which can only affect innoson and Nigerian project very negatively.

Produce a car or jeep dedicate it to yourself and give it CHUKWUMA or any other name, your wife's, daughter's son's but an Igbo name. Produce another one and give it a Yoruba name or a Hausa name.
You can look for any of the great leaders you love and use his/her name for the product. Like dedication to their great works.

Igbo; Nigerian developmental Catalyst
KingIyke. | 4/28/2014 7:00:46 PM
Nigeria has only succeded in holding her progress back by suppressing Igbos. Yes that is the hard truth.

After the war a systematic approach was unleased by the federal gvt to make sure Igbos never recover. Indiginization policy was introduced to keep Igbos out of center stage of the nation's development.
Every Igbo man that held an account in any bank was given only 20 pounds irrespective the amount of money in the account. This was done to empoverish the Igbo nation further. Also the federal gvt went to Oshogbo transmission center to adjust the electric power feeding to core Igbo states to such a low level that it could not power the simplest electric motor but could only light a 60watts bulb. This was done to descaurage localization of industries in Igboland. Igbos were marked below certain ranks and position in federal agencies espacially police and the army.

Yet with all that done, Imo state alone enroll more than 20% of jamb candidates and produces the same proportion of graduating students in the whole federation every year. According to Elrufai, Igbos own 65% of Choice properties in the FCT.

Igbos are like moving train. Trying to stop them is equivalent to committing suicide. Hence Nigeria has toiled with suicide for so long.

Nigeria will be great if all will agree.

Who God has blessed no man can course. Innoson you are blessed.

NIGERIA MADE CARS????
WEEP 4 NAIJA | 5/2/2014 10:16:54 AM
Hi All..First of all . I don't know if we all know that we do not have any plant in Nigeria that can manufacture a bicycle with just 50% of Nigerian sourced parts and materials not to talk about 100% Nigerian made bicycles.....Its a step ahead to have an assembling plant that hopefully will not fail like the heavily financed VW and PEUGEOT...we are happy people will be employed and since they are assembled here, may be cheaper. However going chinese is not a great step. TATA is setting up pretty soon and might cloud other small plants like IVM. I think they should have opted for Turkish or Russian products. Enough money shouldve been spent on research on countries like BRAZIL and SA and their assembly plants before making this move. Cars and Buses are not like the Okada Jincheng that can be replaced every day. A small example would be the way the indian made BAJAJ and TVR bikes showed extreme superiority over the Chinese brands......Well to the people fighting over what tribe and what not, you are all so backward and taking us back to the dark days of Nigeria, I have seen very intelligent and excellent engineers from the North and South and East and I have also seen very f*****h people from this same regions, a lot of them are here...We all speak English which makes us one...Forget it, years down the line this tribal thing will die, our children will realize how f*****h we were wasting time on which tribe is superior or which is s****d. If you want to be traditional , write here in your own language and alphabets and words and see how many people will understand. Do we have any? Even communicating in our own laguage we have to spell it with Oyibo's letters!!!!! I weep for Naija, No its really not naija, I weep for the shallow minds of some Nigerians for their indepth backwardness!

If only you've ventured into thinking design and creativity, you'll know what this man passed through, if only you've read about henry ford, soichiro Honda, Igor Sikorsky, the Wright brothers, Michael Faraday,.... the list is endless, then you'll know what it means to duff your cap for this man especially in a third world country where we are our own enemies; the Igbos holding on to the past, the Hausas being afraid of what might happen should power elude them, the Yorubas being too jealous as not being the first to try some feats. As a scientist I designed and fabricated a novel stirling engine which today seem to amaze me myself. How I was able to achieve this feat remains a mystery. In my course of life study, I discovered that when the student decides to learn, the teacher appears. To all Nigerians and indeed Africans, what we really need now to surprise the whites is REPRODUCTIVE INVENTION with a bit of novel features that might make our products adaptable to our terrain. Imagine what would happen if more of innossons spring up from the north, west, south and middle belts. Nigerians should always have this spirit of I CAN attitude!!!!
