The politics of Rivers State is getting messier. Governor Rotimi Amaechi's convoy was prevented by a team of policemen from using one of the two entrance to the government house.
The Governor's convoy was intercepted by four truck loads of policemen, lead by senior police officers, as it made its way through the Forte road entrance.
The act which lead to an argument between the policemen and Amaechi's aides forced the Governor to alight and he was told they were acting on orders from above and can only reverse on the order if asked to do so by the superiors the order came from in Abuja.
The governor's convoy had to wait for 45 minutes before finally detouring to take the Azikiwe road entrance to to the government house

'Dem are c***y' as Fela Kuti said. Naija, is this your democracy where an elected Governor, the people's mandate is barricaded from using the state road to get to the state house to perform his official duty. Unbelievable things are happening in Naijaoo!
yogale | 9/13/2013 3:32:52 PM |
If the governors entry into the govt house thru that route will cause break down of law and order, it is the constitutional responsibility of the police to prevent that from happening.
also Dis commissioner of police needs to defend his worthless action...does he wants to become the governor??
well we all know what our fresh air dispenser and the shepopo are capable of doing..
jank | 9/13/2013 3:53:38 PM |
What if the populace, assuming armed (MEND, OPC, militants, etc), now wants to protect their governor? Wouldn't that lead to a confrontation with the police with both sides thinking they're right? What role will the military play and who would be in charge?
Where did the police get the "authority" to stop a sitting governor? The police are meant to enforce the judgment as passed by the judiciary.
I dare Goodluck Jonathan and the IGP to try this with Rabiu Kwankwaso of kanoor Wammako of Sokoto then we will see if they really have balls.I'm just laughing, is this joke or what?!!

amaechi is going too far ,gej has been too lenient with him. it is up to Mr President to do the necessary things in order to restore sanity and discipline back into the party. The law is above any man, and as such Amaechi should respect the laws and constitution of the land he has be falsely claiming he is defending. Let him stop making issues out of nothing, he could have used another road instead of the one that was barricaded. The press also needs to toe the line of decorum, why would they report that Amaechi was barred from the Govt house when he was only prevented from using one of the numerous roads that leads there.
OLU ABEFE | 9/14/2013 9:02:26 AM |
Jonathan is not only clueless. He is also brainless. It is small kids who fight the way he is fighting. His very look cuts the picture of a man who is not smart. I still don't understand how Nigeria and Nigerians fell into the hands of this visionless boy who pretends to be a man. His illiterate wife is his major undoing. She is pushing him to perdition. In any case, Goodluck has sent an invitation to the ever-waiting military boys. Mark my words, a COUP DETAT is inevitabe.

Is the governor God? It is you people who give these officials this idea that they're untouchable deities. Better believe we are in a democracy and no one is above the law - including governors.
JJD | 9/13/2013 1:38:38 PM |
My friend this has nothing to do with Nigeria as a country but men who want to outdo themselves: From the Video you heard Amaechi saying:"Oh! Because the Police Commission is at home that is why the road is blocked and the Governour is not supposed to to pass?" And the reply was a resounding YES! So what is the problem? After all he had alternative rout to his mansion. Amaechi will continue playing this villain-role and at same time cohorting with the Mallams from the North.

Did you know how Government Houses was planned and lay-out across the country ? What is right will always be right and what is wrong will always be wrong. Imagine if a your neighbor or tenant bar you from entering your building (place of abode). I wonder the reason behind this show of shame from CP MBU and his Oga at the top .
This is impunity of the highest order and it is barbaric .

can i say something here, GEJ reminded "Dear GEJ, please don't forget that this is how ur mentors(Saddam Hussein & Gardafi) started their waka o.. That said, GEJ is towing the path of destruction. That is y it pays to be a rascal. You can't try this in Lagos or any South Western State.Blocking a governor from entering his government house, without his consent, is condemnable though.
Going into 2015, Nigeria faces two major threats in this order. 1. President Jonathan's ambition. 2. Boko Haram.

The truth of the matter is that Amaechi was not informed of the said road block. Secondly if the road block was a security measure to protect the governor, why didn't the police just let the Governor in and continue their road block after he has entered the premises? Reply this thread

Amaechi is the Chief Security officer of Rivers State and has every right to pass any route he so chooses, either to avoid a security threat, to assess a security threat or to solve a security problem.. Why didnt the Police stop Amaechi all those times when he was entering into the bushes and going after criminals and militants.. Why didnt the Police barricade Okrika LGA to avert breakdown of Law and Order when Mrs. Porky Jonathan insulted the Governor at the town hall meeting?! Why now?! Shey thats the same way that these areas shown on the MAP were also blocked to avert breakdown of Law and Order when that Vessel of a first lady visited Port Harcourt for 11days and literally barred the State Governor from passing that route.
Rivers People are not f**led by what they hear. Reply this thread

Why always amaechi? Why not akpabio or any other non opposition governor? This only points to one thing........ The presidency. For their info, it only gives him more reason to be rebellious. The order from the Oga at the top is very crystal, "make him as uncomfortable as possible in his state" else which gut has a mere commissioner of police to harass a sitting governor like this in his own state? With the way lawlessness is going I hope the military won't tell the President to take another route soon. Reply this thread

What happens if the diversion was to lead them into a trap? Their routes are well planned ahead and he was not informed of the blockade. eh eh when did that start in Nigeria? last time I checked, Governors still enjoy immunity from ANY legal proceeding.
Someone should pls remind GEJ that only change is permanent and only the coward look for power at all cost but power comes to the men of valour.

Wow, whether he was denied access totally or asked to follow alternative route, what the POLICE did is totally wrong and unwarranted.
Many Questions arise:
1. Does a C.P have superiority over the governor?
2. Why must party politics be mingled with state affairs?
3. What did the POLICE achieve or wish to from this?
4. Is this not another Guiness Book of Record for the Nigerian Police. Reply this thread

An elected official is denied access to his office by gun totting policemen . I wonder what will happen should the Military decide to deny GEJ access into Aso Rock. should there not be thorough investigations and publicized results before the police can take such action against an elected governor, Mbu is only trying to intimidate Amaechi period.GEJ has made the Amaechi project more popular than even his cassava bread project. By the provision of the same constitution, Section 215(4), the Governor or a Commissioner as directed by the Governor can issue directive to the CP subject to verification from the President. The implication is that there cannot be any security issue that the Governor should not know about. If there was actually a security situation, he should have been informed and he would have gone through the alternative routes, not when he got to the spot, which is the main entrance.
Please Ameachi may be bad but let us no condone what is bad. CP Mbu is acting ultra vires. Reply this thread
