The annual Ojude Oba festival held yesterday in Ijebu Ode, Ijebu Ode local government area of Ogun State. The GLOBACOM-sponsored festival is an annual occasion where the ancestral lineage of the first converted Muslims of the Ijebu people pay homage to their King, the Awujale, for allowing their ancestors practise Islam.

It takes place on the third day of Eid-el-Kabir, displaying the rich cultural heritage of the Ijebu people, and attracting tourists from across the globe and Ijebu indigenes in the diaspora.

The festival witnessed Ijebu sons and daughters including the Baloguns, age-groups (Regberegbes), societies and various groups paying homage to the Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Ogbagba II, at his newly constructed edifice directly opposite his palace.

Highlights of the event include the parade of the Regberegbes, sounds of gunshots, traditional songs, poems and horses display

Rightly said. Ojude oba is an annual festival celebrated by the indigenes of Ijebu and their friends. Though this is celebrated 3 days after Ileya festival, it is not a religious festivity as anyone is welcomed irrespective of their religion. Muslim, Christian, Traditionalist or Atheist. It is an avenue for the sons and daughters of Ijebu to pay homage to their paramount ruler the Awujale of ijebuland.

The horse ride kicks off the day with chiefs of some royal and prestigious houses (families) representing their people. T

One association I remember vividly well is Egbe Bobakeye (Literally meaning "Rejoice with the king" association) one which KWAM 1 is a member. After this, then there is celebration galore all day till the dawn.

The event looks very colourful ceremony. One thing you cant take away from the Ijebus is 'owambe'. They are good at it.it's a festival of opulence....even bill gates would question himself a bit if he goes there. there are thorough-bred horses dressed up with smith & wesson saddles & the full regalia in display. i was dumbfounded

chief ajagba should commit suicide for hating Yoruba that much. It has to do with tribalism amd the ever offensive and contentious prism of superiority the Yorubas has over the Igboids. They will ever remain chasers. The Yorubaswill ever remain leaders and pace setters.somebody should please give some banana to that monkey up there!

How can u only relate juju to Yorubas/ijebus,we are even better than igbos when it comes to that. There is no family in igbo land without an imbessile as their first son just bcos of land.Yorubas are nice and accomodates pple from diff.tribes.Go to ijebus,u see a lot igbos building houses which can never happen in your area.Abi i lie?Ask your brother Peter Okoye what he has gained for marrying a Yoruba woman which he can never benefit from his pple.Yoruba leads while others follow, its God doing bcos IGBOS can never survive without us,we are your back bones.
