The United Nations has labeled the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and Power Holden Company of Nigeria (PHCN) as mostly corrupt public institutions in Nigeria.

The indictment by the office on Drugs and Crimes of United Nations is jointly produced by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Officials of the agencies today, July 1 in Abuja disclosed that crime and corruption represents over seventy-five percent of obstacles to the setting up of businesses in the country.

The report also shows that bribery in small enterprises is more frequent in the southern part of the country.

In the recent past, nationwide corruption survey identified the Nigerian Police as the most corrupt organisation in the country, closely followed by the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN).

The survey results, which echoed a previous corruption finding in previous years, was released by the Independent Advocacy Project (IAP), a non-governmental organisation which focuses on good governance in Nigeria.

AJASCO... I DO BOTH INDIVIDUALLY AND ON MY BUSINESSES. Tax people are hunting people and businesses down like c***y but question to ask is how much really goes to the govt and how much goes to individual pockets?

Nigeria needs SERIOUS prayer to fight corruption. Serious one.
Liar
Mia | 7/2/2010 11:11:04 AM |
No you do not. Stop lying. Unless you have an extremely huge, well known business and you are extremely loaded(rich) that's the only way you actually pay taxes in Nigeria.
Only really extremely rich individuals pay taxes in that country, everybody else do not.
Honest
AJASCO | 7/2/2010 7:12:46 PM |
Mia let me believe you really paying your taxes but if not like the other guy said, it will be a shame.I think the govt shouldmake it most important for everyone to produce their tax cert whenever dealing with public offices. Forget prayer Mia, the developed countries do not even in a year pray 20% of what is prayed in Nigeria in a day. What i think Nigeria need is physical action just like it happened in Ghana with Jerry Rawling years back.
let forget about tax
John | 7/2/2010 8:45:14 PM |
paying tax will not solve Nigeria problem, because the money will not get to the desired destination. Jerry rawlings principle will not even work in Nigeria because corruption has eating deep into the Nigeria system. but come to the idea of paying tax, why should people pay tax from the money the government has no contribution to either directly or indirectly. do u expect a farmer to pay tax from his farm product that was 100% sponsor by him alone? Nigeria needs a revolution, but the question is WHO WILL START IT and if some does who will support him, is it an igbo man with his hidden wealth or a Yoruba with his enjoyment attitude, for the north u can just forget them, because they are brought up to be slave or gate man idea.
i dnt care

Solution to Crimes in Nigeria
Benson Madu | 12/10/2010 6:25:11 PM
I have carefully studied all comments and I want to say they have spoken their minds. If I am given the opportunity to rule Nigeria 4 only two weeks corruption will be a thing of the past. Firstly, I will execute publicly all past political leaders from the post of Counsellorship to Presidential. Then increase the salaries of the military and most especially Nigerian Police, increase their life insurance policy to the level of worth dying for, increase their Gratuity to the point that all military/police officers will be looking forward to their 35 years of service. Nigerian Police if well paid will stop collecting bribe instantly and do their job just like UK police. Creating I.C.P.C , E.F.C.C is just a slap on Nigeria police. Good example, compare E.F.C.C officers and Nigeria Police officers Salaries. Why EFCC junior officer should be paid more than Police junior officer????????? I am Benson Madu
