Dora Akunyili

Following reports of fracas at the burial of Dora Akunyili's sister in Anambra she sent out this press statement from her father’s compound at Nanka, Anambra State.

Dora Akunyili's statement:

"I came down to my village to join my family, relations and well wishers to pay my last respect to my late sister Gloria but unknown to me, my family and invited guests, a large number of thugs loyal to Prof. Charles Soludo were carefully organized to disrupt my participation in my sister’s burial ceremony. I have never seen the number of thugs I saw on Friday in any event. The thugs were also instructed to embarrass my invited guests. As you may be aware, Prof. Charles Soludo is marrying my late elder sister’s daughter Nonye. So we are in-laws, but since he lost the last gubernatorial election in Anambra State, Prof. Soludo has singled me out as the source of his failure to win the election, and he convinced my sister to believe that I was the cause of his failure. All efforts by people to make him understand that I alone cannot make him Governor have failed. So he brought that anger, grudge and frustration to the burial of his mother in-law who is also my elder sister. All arrangements made by me and my other siblings to receive guests at Isuofia, where my late sister was residing (which is also Soludo’s village) were vandalized by Soludo’s hired thugs. They followed this up with text messages of blackmail to my guests, friends and well wishers. When the environment in Isuofia became too insecure, tense and hostile, I quietly relocated to my father’s compound at Nanka which is few kilometres away just to avoid trouble. But Soludo’s thugs also trailed us to my own village Nanka to commence trouble but the security agents quietly dismissed them.

I want to remark that my late sister Gloria was a very peaceful, Godly and well brought up woman. While she was alive, I enjoyed her love and friendship as a sister no matter what Soludo and his hired thugs think. Because of this, even in death, I will do nothing to dishonour her because what Soludo and his thugs has done is to dishonour her but God has taken control. I therefore wish to thank all my invited guest for their understanding and the church for their prayers and co-operation.”

A prof hiring thugs! He must be a tout himself. Politics is not a do or die affair. Please leave the poor woman a lone and go settle scores with your fellow men.
You are supposed to be in the classrom teaching and not hiring thuggs.

Why must you reduce your self to such level? You have made a nonsence of your education.
f*****h man!

Jane | 7/20/2010 9:00:23 PM |
Is this how Soludo would have governred Amanbra if he was elected? He would have been busy using touts to settle scores.

I think it is proper to crown him chairman or presido of all the touts in Onitsha and Anambra in general.
Soludo, you are a disgrace.
Thank God you didnt win. By now Anambra's obituary would have been announced. You would have completely killed what is left of the half dead state.
Hope u r alright mentally!
Stan | 7/22/2010 4:43:49 PM |
I've noticed the manner u respond to things and i keep doubting if all is well with u mentally! how can u open ur bucal cavity to call Prof Soludo a f**l just because Prof Dora made an allegation against him?

Where is ur sense of reasoning and logical conclusions? so u just believe whatever u hear? u have to stop this kind of abusive words on our respected elites. Soludo is man of honour!!
SHAME! SHAME!! SHAME!!!
Uzoma | 7/19/2010 9:36:51 PM
You guys have no shame for washing your dirty linen in the public. The two of you were respected technocrats but see what politics have turned you to especially Soludo. Some of us professionals look up to you for your achievement and want to emulate you but you have allowed greed and hunger for power to becloud your reasoning. It even gets worst knowing fully that you are from the same Anambra state. The state that seriously need true leader that can sanitise her and curb her of all the ills imposed by the Ubas. One will be apt to single you people out as decent elite the state needs. Shame! Shame!! Shame!!!

Mrs Akunyili, You've No Shame!
Emeka - London | 7/20/2010 12:21:46 AM
Madam, I don't believe you have any shame at all. Perhaps, that may be because you are a NIGERIAN politician. But to stoop so low as to tarnish the solemn event or occasion of your sister's burial, with silly political intrigues, is simply beyond the pale !

Bringing your feud with Soludo into the public domain on this forum is a clear attempt to make political capital out of your sister's death. It also demonstrates that you are a shrewd politician who is capable of doing ANYTHING to get elected to a higher political office. Disgusting !

I know you politicians always fight dirty. But madam, you are also a professor! I have always s****dly thought that there is a natural positive correlation between one's degree of education and political conduct. Silly me ! How mistaken I have been.

Please, NFC, help me tell Dora Akunyili that we don't do politics on this forum. Tell her that whatever feud she has with Soludo is her business not ours. She certainly knows the appropriate theatres to play out or test out the political intrigues she is probably hatching for her future political career.

Nonsense !

Thanks for your nice words. I was really touched when I read them. I still cannot believe that it was your initial comments that made to stop and think. Because of our past differences I nearly brushed them aside, but I thank God I didn't.

Anyway, I have quietly been looking for an opportunity to reconcile with you, and I believe this occasion offers that opportunity. I am a very friendly person, and I have seen so many indications that tell me that you are a very friendly person too. I therefore suggest that from now on, we should put our differences behind us, and start relating to each other as friends on this forum. It makes me very happy to suggest that, and I hope it makes you happy too.

Once again thanks for your nice words. I appreciated them. Bye for now.

My sister you surprise me. So you still remember those small disagreements we had on this forum a very long time ago? In fact, if you have not raised them now, believe me I would never have remembered them again till I die. They were so minor. The only reason I remember them now is that when you hinted about them in your comments here, I had to review the NFC records to find out exactly what happened.

There is no point recounting the issues again here, since both you and I now remember them very well. So simply forget about them because they were nothing. Therefore, I can now say with confidence that between you and I, there is no serious past to put behind us as there is between Platinum and I.

I thank you for giving me the opportunity to clarify and settle this matter once and for all. Please have a nice day and bye for now.

An Apology To Prof Akunyili
Emeka - London | 7/20/2010 7:55:21 AM |
I wish to apologize unreservedly for my scathing comments above. I now realise they are totally uncalled for. I am awfully sorry.

The only reason for my outburst was that I misread the CONTEXT in which your "statements" was put out to the public. Had I read the above report carefully, I should not have mistaken your "statements" as a political ploy.

I have no personal ill-feelings toward you, as my comments may appear to suggest. My fundamental problem is that I tend to get upset whenever I read about how politics is practised in Nigeria.

I want to make it very clear to you that I know very little about who Soludo is. I am not working for him, or for any other politician or political group . I am simply a very private person, and would like to remain so.

May I now seize this opportunity to offer my sincerest condolences to you, for the death of your sister. May her soul rest in perfect peace.

I hope you find it in your heart to accept this apology. God bless.

With your THIRD comment, I went "This is more like the Emeka I know!" And your FOURTH comment sealed the deal!

We're all liable to mistakes. It takes a good man to realise he made one but a better man to apologise. Kudos, Emeka!

Omo aus Deutschland, It's nice to hear from you again. I'm sorry if I startled you a bit.

For a brief moment, I really went over the bend, as you delicately put it. But I thank God that I was able to rectify the situation as quickly as possible. It was a huge public climb-down for me, but I am very glad that common sense prevailed.

Please thanks for your trust in me, take care, and bye for now.

How do u expect us to believe u ma?
That ur brother in law disrupted the burial of her mother in law bcos of u?
where was his wife? is she in support that her husband should bring shame to the burial of her mother just bcos of u ? haba ma! pls issue another press rease to denounce this one biko. I am indifferent about soludo's personality.

Politics is a dirty game but here in Nigeria it is even dirtier. I don't think that is everything Dora sees or suspects that she shld say in the public. Soludo is one person who have not spoken against any politician including Dora in Nigeria even before he entered into politics, i think she shld leave him alone and he is not just your brother inlaw but you brother as well.

I am sorry to say that Dora talks too much, her husband shld call her to attention now.

This is WOMEN in POLITICS. What do you expect, women talk, talk talk and talk always talking.

My dear, NO sane igbo woman will allow her mother's burial to be put to shame cos of whatever reason.

I totally disagree with Dora. secondly, how did she know that the thugs are loyal to Soludo? has she started keeping record of thugs and sponsors?

We should learn to pay little respect to those that deserve it. The same Soludo was the first to accept the election result in Anambra without delay, even when Ngige was going to court. Since then has any of us heard any noise from him?
What are we talking about here? when did Dora become the strongest force in Anambra politic to have stopped himfrom becoming the governor. I still disagree with Aunty Dora

So because dora has spoken it must be the real truth about what is going on between them. If Soludo is granted an interview too and comes with a different story to the issue, who is right then. People should think and see things from both sides b4 they make s****d comments.

You are right Igbo boy, this woman can talk, she thinks everything is talk talk talk and when she is talking, she will be talking with all her muscle as if nothing can happen, na wah.

Anyway, Soludo shldn't mind her, what can a man benefit when he argues with a woman, nothing, instead may talk. Ignore her, woman na woman.

But Madam Dora, you people have elders in your place or at that burial, you shld sort this matter out, very soon you will say, Soludo has a hand in her death, as if you will not die again. Make we hear word i beg no be only you, dey outspoken, self ego and pride don too much, wetin self.

It has always bothered me why is politics in Igboland do or die business? the thing tire me. When are we going to learn to respect one another irrespective of the grudges we bear against one another. When are we going to stop pulling each other down? Somebody his house is burning does not chase rat.

I was wondering where prof. Soludo got the money he was throwing around. Is it not more honourable to use that stolen money to build an industry in his town to benefit his people instead of investing it on thugs to intimidate the poor woman. Even with his educational background he has no respect for women. Any way I am not surprised, in Igboland when are not respected. But in the civilized culture women are treated with respect and honour. This is confirmation of my observation that it is one thing to be educated and it is another to be civilized. Normaly both should go hand in hand. It is true of the saying that a fruit does not fall far from its tree. In other words, by theor fruit we shall know them. He is a nigerian. We have not forgotten the fracas in the house of representatives.
Soludo, intimidation has nothing to do in politics. Amen.

i think Emeka...u don't read well before placing ur statement...so shameful of soludo to have acted like that...how can he does such in a burial and u have to like criticize dora who was there to make peace...truly...with an insight if u look at it...majority is the vote not one person...what can only she does....cos he failed once doesn't means he is a failure and tried to pass his aggression on another person what...thats why they said igbo are nt people to comprehend with...emeka u said a silly statement which is annoying...and stoop so low to his in-laws and what do u expect....think before u write ur statement down and better to be a role model not a thug...cos he's got the power...lead people well and make an impact not all this trash...

Where you at the burial?

Na wah for una, Dora talks and talks anytime, anywhere, anyday, inshort anyhow, she is a woman there is nothing Soludo can say.

This is another way of advertising the sister's death / burial. At least the woman was buried, no problem. I think Soludo is marrying the late woman's daughter, Dora cannot be everywhere, she is married and her sister married too, so what is her problem there, in ibo land when you are married you start controling your husband's sides not your elder's side haba.

Anyway what has Dora's Sister burial event go to do with the public.

sort yourselves out over there

Jerry -London | 3/31/2011 2:54:45 PM
Well, people go for or make much ado about nothing. One good thing about this blog is the provision of the affordable opportunity for people to lay their views and learn from each other, otherwise it is a blunder to talk about a family who were s**p**ed to be going for their normal businesses. Sometimes it is better in case you don't know to learn from the mistakes and wisdom of our elders and able statesmen alike, e.g Soludo. We must ask ourselves, must Dora be the only one to be granted press interview in a family fracas? Is Prof. Dora the most closest in the family of Prof. Soludo's mother inlaw for the press release on what happened at the burial? Why has the public not heard from Soludo on what happened on this burial? Man should think before making a public statement, b~cos it could expose your evil grudges and dirty ideologies against innocent ones. It is God that vindicates, not humans. Lo, out of the abundance of the heart the mouth 'speaket'. That is what I saw. Again, Prof. Soludo used money for his campaign, in the Nigeria context is in-material, cos he is not the only politician in that attitude. Virtually all politicians are involved. For the fact that Soludo accepted the gubernatorial election in Anambra at first instance without going to court like Ngige did, made him a complete gentle man. It is good to be out-spoken but not in all matters. People should stop blowing trumpet for a particular individual or adding fuel to fire. Prof. Dora should seek for the eyes of wisdom and make amends with Prof. Soludo.
