N/Assembly Tasks FG On Nollywood, Ghana Crisis
Story by Bayo Adetu

Members of the National Assembly have asked the Federal Government of Nigeria to intervene by prevailing on the Ghanaian Government to stop collecting levies from Nigerian actors in Ghana.

The crisis over participation fee by actors in both countries has been on for months until Tuesday when the National Assembly intervened by moving two motions, one of which was a call on the Federal Government to transfer the movie industries in Nigeria from the Ministry of Information and Communications to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

The Film Producers Association of Ghana [FIPAG] recently conveyed the directive of Ghanaian Government placing a levy of $5,000 on any Nigerian Film Producer working in Ghana to the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN.

In retaliation, the Nigerian movie makers also slammed a $2,500 fee on any Ghanaian actor that comes to ply his trade in Nigeria.

Intervene by " prevailing "?
Jude | 7/23/2010 9:35:27 PM
What r*****h talk is this ?
Is this the time "to prevail on Ghana government ", by dialogue or by immediate RETALIATION from the Nigerian government?
The National Assembly should not be engaging in silly , time-wasting debates about this issue but they should be discussing how to flush out Ghanaians working and doing business in Nigeria ! Simple.
For starters , Ghanaians must be made to obtain work or business permits in Nigeria after paying $500,000 each, before they can work or sell anything, even their usual hawking of pure water and puff-puff in Nigeria.
This would be our response for their levying our business men in Ghana for $300,000 and for demanding for work permits from Nigerians.
If we cannot live and work in their country why should they live here , make a lot of money and enjoy a higher standard of life in Nigeria ?
Furthermore what is stopping Nigeria from imposing passport and visa requirements on Ghanaians ? Which ECOWAS treaty are you referring to ?
As for Nollywood, Nigerians got everything they deserved and will get even more slaps from Ghana for being so s****d as to welcome those Ghanaian devils into Nollywood , with open arms!
The appropiate response to Ghana's levy of $1,000 and $5,000 levy against Nigerian actors and producers is for Nigeria to respond promptly ; not to " prevail on the Ghanaian government to stop whatever they are doing to Nigerians!"
Who is Ghana?
As an immediate response , a charge of $5,000 and $25,000 on Ghanaian actors and producers before they can even "smell" Nollywood , ever again ; is the best line of action from Nigeria to Ghana. Not discussing " how to prevail on the Ghanaian government to change their mind! "
They will not stop! So forget dialogue with Ghana .
Enough of this disgusting official slowness and lethargic responses to insults from inferior countries like Ghana!
Wake up Nigerians !
Oh , how we miss our active past leaders like Generals M.M.Mohammed , Idiagbon and Buhari !
By now , in this type of situation , Ghana would have been firmly put in her place !

You asked"Who Is Ghana".Well if u didnt know let me brief u a bit,Ghana has the following attributes;
The first country south of the sahara to gain independence thereby paving the way for the likes of Nigeria to fight for liberation,
The first black african country to ever win a medal in football at the olympics thereby paving the way for the likes of Nigeria to also win medal,
The first black african country to be visited by the first African American president ie Obama,
The first black African country to produce UN secretary General in the person of Kofi Annan,
The first African country to ever go so close to the semi finals of the FIFA world cup.
The country that produced the african of the Millenium in the person of Kwame Nkrumah.

So Jude, if you are talking about Ghana, a country of just over 20millin people,be careful you do not embarrass yourself.

Step by step
doodoo | 7/22/2010 2:06:03 PM | Do you know if she is building one? Or maybe she has a house in another state? Must every actress have a building in Lagos? Some of them prefer to start from their home states.
There is an actress from Imo state ( I wont mention name)he has three houses in the Estate where we live in Owerri. His parents and siblings live in one. One is strictly reserved for him - he stays there with his family anytime they are in Owerri and the other he rented out to two families. ( a two apartment building in one compound).
I dont know if where he lives in lekki belongs to him or is rented.
So everything is accoding to plan. Everybody cannot build in lagos at the same time. Most actor/ress who base in Enugu live in their own homes in Enugu and squat with friend when they are in Lagos.

We see you as inferior to us and you will always be so , whatever you achieve!
Even if we are 20 million and Ghana is 150 million , your intelligence and outlook is very inferior to that of the average Nigerian! PERIOD!
So , all these 1st you have listed here are NOTHING because Ghana is still Ghana; NOTHING has changed there!
What have you got to show for your "1st independence , Obama's visit , flash-in -the-pan World cup appearance and so on and so forth?
Absolutely NOTHING!

Kwame | 7/24/2010 5:48:55 PM
Do we do background checks before coming to conclusions.Who says that Nigerians are levied $300,000 here in Ghana before they are allowed to do business.Ghana is such a lovely and peaceful country and it is the dream of everyone to taste the Ghanaian hospitality, friendliness and serene environment.Nigerians should understand that we have tolerated a lot of nonsense unbecoming of guests and will not continue to be silent for them to destroy what we have laboured for for so long.In any case who enjoys living in a country where there is unavailability of power, water and peace.Yes,Ghanaians in Nigeria will not resort to arm robbery,4*9 and the likes in order to eche a living, instead we will do whatever legitimate like selling water,puff-puff or being cobbler in order to survive. If the truth is to be told plain, about 90% of Nigerians in Ghana are menace and we wish they werent here.I laud the National assembly petitioning the FG to resort to dialogue to find amicable solution to this seeming conflict.

Heroman, are u dat dumb and dull. For your info, the largest state in Nigeria which is Niger is about 76,363km squared and the largest region in Ghana which is the Northern Region of Ghana is about 70,384km squared and they compete favourably so how on earth can a tiny Ibadan which is only 3,080km squared compare to a whole Ghana. Please engage in intellectual debate.Am disappointed in the level of intelligence of some contributors like u.U open ur mouths byheart.

hellow kwame,i want you to find out these facts from ghana investment promotion council[GIPC] Nigeria is the second in terms of foreign direct investment in your country after USA.just early this year Nigeria is on the verge of surpassing usa and becoming number one in terms of FDI in your country.i am absolutely sure you dont know this fact because you are among many ghanians who have vowed not to give credit where it is due.i have done business with ghanians for about 9yrs and i know what i say.i still wonder if this action of your film industry is spearheaded by your government and if so,i think that the consequnces of this action will be too severe for your country should my government step into it.i know many ghanians are inherently envious even to their fellow countrymen and i believe your compatriots in your film industry are just envious of the rise of their fellow compatriots in the nigerian film industry.i have nothing against ghana because i know there are good ghanians but i must state it to you that the action of some ghanians like you against anything nigeria will not help your country but rather put you in a difficult dilemma that will put your country backwards.we are living in a global village where no country is an island on its own and i can assure you that without nigeria beside your country, will cannot get to this heaven which you think your country can get to.

dnt confuse issues
Kwame | 8/9/2010 4:25:37 PM |
Chukwuma, who is sayin Nigeria doesnt have investment in Ghana and if u will be sincere u shd know a businessman will not invest in a country where there is chaos and instability.Ghana created the atmosphere for Nigerians to have the confidence to invest here,it didnt come out of a vacuum. In any case is not true that it was because the CBN upped the amount Nigerian Banks are to have as base capital that made so many of them run to Ghana where the base capital was much more lower?Isnt not also true that the proximity of Nigeria to Ghana and language and cultural similarity made them come here?is it not also true that Nigeria benefitted more thru international transaction to have a bank sited in Ghana. It shocks me that u r giving credit to a cattle rearer who finds a refreshing pasture for his cattle instead of giving credit to the person who cultivated the land for the cattle. This is prepostorous. Its true u have investment in Ghana likewise Ghanaian investments in Nigeria but the core reason is profit making for the owners, nothing more.
It is not Ghanaians who will say Nigeria has a bad reputation,it is known worldwide.Just admit that Nigeria has a problem and by first acknowledging the problem is the first steps towards finding solution. If u want to say u dnt have a problem, then continue deceiving yourself
what about ur economy

you guys need Nigeria more than we need you! all those companies there that are Nigerian owned employ a BIG FRACTION of your workforce.
take that away and you will see the domino effect.
if they were not needed in Ghana, they would not be there having successful businesses. Obviously the citizens are benefiting from it.
stop whining like a baby and get over it.
yes about nigerian economy
e chukwujama | 7/31/2010 9:32:28 PM
yes talking about economy,i think you shuld go back and research before you make a s****d conclusion.nigerias economy is very very very resilient now.our GDP is now growing.nigeria is not only investing in ghana but also investing in other west african nations and even in london and america.for instance,UBA, GUARANTY TRUST bank and other nigerian banks are in london and usa.currently it will interest you to know that FIRST BANK is even about to go into SOUTH AFRICA.pls nigeria has the financial muscle to invest in not only in africa but in europe and america.it is not only the banks but other busineses.common sense will tell you;[if you have one] that you can only invest if have money.you cannot invest with an empty mouth.okay.please i want to use this midium to appeal to my fellow ghanian brothrs to stop this enmity and hatred for nigerians.i know that this perceived hatred is not general so i believe that there ghanians who do not have time to harbour unnecessary hatred for nigerians.i know this very well and i know that 98 percent nigerians in ghana engage in legitimate business and it will be very very unfair for one to categorize all nigerians as being bad.enough is enough.

Chukwujama,u talk about the wealth and financial muscle of Nigeria as if it is by your own doing.God just blessed u with oil and it is sad and a desgrace to Africa how the oil money is being used.In Nigeria today, when we talk about abject poverty,it is so rife there. How on earth can somebody boast of a country with the capacity to produce about 3million barrel of oil still swimming in abject poverty. No wonder former President Buhari and so many others say that God blessed Nigeria with all the resources except the greatest of them all, human resource.Apart from God's gift to Nigeria what else can Nigerians be proud of.U r a desgrace to the black race, period!

It is so disgusting how you people relate with yourselves here. The war between Nigerians and Ghanians is a display of how far the black race has gone.

Hey Kwame, congratulations, I can smell how brilliant you reason. I think you should revisit history to find out the role Ghana played towards Nigerian Independence. Your thoughts are very far from the truth. That you got it first does not mean that you opened the way.
To cut story short, your last president before the present one made this point clear over CNN.
I am a Nigerian but please do not get me wrong. I am neutral here i.e. I am only here to support ideas that promote the oneness of all Africans.
So fellow Nigerians, please stop all this rough talks about Ghana. If Ghanians should require a work permit in Nigeria, then it means African will never reach the promise land. What is ECOWAS. AU =EU.

Please stop the f**ling around with words like my country is the best, we are best in this and that and let us embrace ourselves as one.

We all know that big or small, all African countries are infected with a terrible disease. We should channel our energy and intelligence towards diagnosing and curing it. Some of the disease include corruption, tribalism, limited education as a result of poverty, selfishness so as to be worshipped forever etc.

Up Nnamdi Azikiwe, up Nelson Mandela, Up Obafemi Awolowo, Up Kofi Annan, Up Barack Obama, Up Bill Clinton. Up Nigeria, Up Ghana and Up Africa. To all great men and women of Africa 'nough respect.

Keep ya head up

GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES OF AFRICA
