What you are about to read isnt a re-enactment from any movie, it actually happened to one of Nollywood’s finest, Kalu Ikeagwu. Reading the actor’s heart felt plight, i cant but wonder what kind of world we are living it. Read below, a detailed write-up of Kalu’s experience in the arms of strange people. “It all began when I was called by a producer through a director friend of mine to do a sixteen day movie production in Ghana. The production was slated to begin on the 28th of June and end on or before the 13th of July. I spoke with the producer, a lady, and on the strength of my relationship with my director friend, agreed to collect my fee when I got to the set. I didn’t think much of this, being excited at the prospect of working with him again and also the thought of working in Ghana again with its friendly people. I told them I had to come in the following day, Tuesday, as I had some work to complete and they agreed. On the Tuesday, I boarded the plane and called the director to let him know I was on my way only for him to tell me he had been trying to reach me the day before to postpone my flight till Friday as they still had some location problems. I was numb. I felt like my stomach had dropped from beneath me. I hadn’t even taken off and now this?! I told him I’d already boarded the plane and couldn’t turn back. And he said to come anyway as there was still choreography rehearsals to do. I got to the hotel at about eight thirty and was met by the director, my friend, who told me there was no problem since I still had four days to choreograph my movement and learn some basic martial arts moves – it was a martial arts movie – before shoot began on Saturday. The producer came later on that morning and we were introduced to one another and she told me she would come to see me in my room later when she finished talking with the director. I did not see her again that day or the next. I had fun rehearsing though, learning moves that seemed so magical to me before and they were exhilaratingly exhausting. Days passed on to the sixth and then seventh day and still no shoot and were peppered with all sorts of reasons why we hadn’t commenced shoot. With some trouble I managed to get my money and began to wonder why the producer seemed to have no problem burning money on hotel bills and keeping us there doing nothing even after I had told her my days were going by. I had scheduled my projects with other producers for later in the month and the next so I wasn’t particularly bothered. I just knew when my time was up I would have to leave. The hotel where we were was on the outskirts of the city of Accra and to get into town was to grapple with horrendous traffic lasting up to five hours so I busied myself with rehearsing to perfect my character’s moves, studying my scripts for the next projects and browsing at the local internet cafes. On Wednesday the 7th of July the director and I were moved to another hotel to gain better accessibility to town. We still hadn’t begun shoot. This was a first for me. I had never seen anything like it. The producer never came around and still did not communicate with me. I had asked her once before whether she was comfortable burning her money like that and she said she had everything under control. I thought then afterwards to keep my thoughts to myself. Oh I forgot another kicker! I was told that the Ghanaian minister for arts and culture had announced that every Nigerian artist or crew member would be charged three hundred US dollars for every project he or she worked on in Ghana and so the said amount would be deducted from my fees. I was astonished that such an edict would take effect immediately without me being forewarned about this. In the spirit of goodwill, bemused as I was, I acquiesced. Little was I to know that this was just the tip of the iceberg of things to come in the following days I was to spend there. There were many; armed robbery in my hotel, non payment of hotel bills, my abduction from my hotel in the middle of the night by soldiers among others. I laugh mirthlessly as I write this because I am still traumatized over my experience in that production in that wonderful country called Ghana. I beg to be let off for now to continue the rest of the story in another post which will be coming up very soon.” So sad that this could happen to one of our own. While we await Kalu’s concluding narration of all that went on, i cant help but remain baffled. So glad Kalu got out safe.

So, Ghana too is a cowboy counttry! Cowgirls too - the Producer is a woman. As much as it sounds like a nightmare on Nigerian street, little that I know that Ghana too is a bad news. They've got Pirates off the coast of East Africa, and Kidnappers in mid-nigeria. And every EX-President is a Billionaire, even if they started out as career Soldier. Wow! Africa is CAUSED!

This is a vain attempt by Nollywood to just distant itself from Ghallywood...If NFC wants Ghana to back off and leave Nollywood, why don't you just come out boldly an say so instead of hiding behind lies to tarnish the good image of Ghana.....I don't believe any of this....... Why is Nigeriafilms.com publishing all these things about Ghana??? What have Ghanaians doen to deserve this??? Are we building Africa or destroying it just for mere fame and power?? It's all vanity, I tell you...VANITY!!!

Poor Kalu! If it were any of the other greedy Nollywood actors , I would have said "Serves him right! ";for accepting to act in any Ghanaian film and in Ghana , for that matter ! Whoever says Ghana is not filled with criminals is a liar! I pray that Nigerians who continue to go to Ghana and who continue to have any dealings with Ghanaian actors , producers and marketers will continue to receive a raw deal , worse than this one , from Ghana ! Amen ! Such harrowing experiences like this one would teach adventurous Nigerians to realise that what we have been saying here , that Ghana is enemy country, is true ! That would discourage and stop Nigerians from going there .

I refuse to believe this nosense and exaggerated lies. kalu was one of the actors i had so much respect for but to say i'm disappointed in him is an understatement. i won't argue that Ghana is free from such vices b'cos all over Africa, we have the same problems. what baffles me is that how come this has not been a news item in Ghana? a swedish man committed suicide yesterday and it was frontpage news today. so how come a well known nigerian actor suffer this kind of heckling and trauma as he calls it and virtually nobody hears about it in Ghana?common mobile phone thefts even find their way into print or electronic media so why is your case unreported? and if it is as bad as you claim did you report to the police? why not come up with the names of the producer (since you think she was acting funny and probably trying to implicate her?), director and the hotels where these incidents took place? 5 hours traffick in accra, are you serious? hahaha were you travelling from accra to kumasi? the abduction by soldiers is what is doing my head in. if you were a political figure i would at least try to bellieve you - even such abductions have drastically reduced after the rawlings regime. military in Ghana are only deployed in extreme cases where maximum security is required and the police force is not enough. so why would a common nollywood actor be abducted like a political enemy? this whole story does not make sense to me. come again!

Obviously you are a ghanaian maybe a certain kofi or whatever who shamelessly tries to hide under a nigerian name, shamefully, you sold out because it is really obvious that we do not place names that way, besides the average Nigerian has no reason to be jealous of ghana as i do not rate ghana at all (no offences meant). next time you want to fake it, try to spell "Naija" not "nigga" cos even a kid in Nigeria knows the right spelling.

To start with,it is important to note that there is no ministerial portfolio in Ghana named arts and culture. You can only find the culture and chieftaincy affairs ministry in Ghana. Also there hasn't been any public directive or media reportage about foreign movie actors having to pay any amount whatsoever. That is a palpable lie. Due to the respect i hold for the actor in question,i want to believe that this story is a joke,or a summary of a new movie coming out soon.

The CONSTANT r*****h comments which these Ghanaian b*****ds like this Yaw are writing here, prove that Ghanaians are possessed with the demons of lying and hypocrisy ! Below is a recent news report in a Ghanaian newspaper about frequent armed robberies in Ghana. * * Ghanaians are currently enduring serious social and economic problems. And to add to their woes, the nation has for the past two years been infested with dangerous armed robbers of all shades. These armed robbers who use sophisticated weapons have become so daring that they operate in broad daylight! There have been many instances where Ghanaians resident abroad who have returned home for holidays or to invest their monies have been targeted and robbed. A disturbing phenomenon of their activities is carjacking and highway robbery Armed robbers brazenly snatch cars from their owners, waylay traders on the highways and deprive them of their monies and personal effects. In some cases they even murder their victims in cold blood. Tourists who bring a lot of foreign exchange to help stimulate the economy have not been spared. There have been several reported attacks of tourists by armed robbers even at their hotels. The activities of these armed robbers have compelled many Ghanaians to live in fear. It is not uncommon to get a phone call from a friend or a relative lamenting the armed robbery situation in Ghana. It is therefore gratifying that President Kuffour has appealed to Ghanaians to be vigilant in their communities and expose armed robbers and miscreants to make the work of the police successful. This blunt statement by the president is an indication of how serious armed robbery is in Ghana today and how the situation is getting out of hand. This appeal does not go far to address the problem, which keeps expanding daily. It has been reported several times that most of these armed robbers operate at the Kotoka International Airport. Some of the criminals pose as genuine people who have come to the airport to meet their relatives from abroad. The situation is so bad that it is a struggle for arriving travelers with luggage to meander through the usual crowd of loiterers, just to exit the gate and join a vehicle. We all know that they just loiter around to know who just arrived in town with a lot of " booty" to facilitate their nefarious activities. While some passengers have been chased immediately after leaving the airport and robbed on the highway, others have been followed to their houses only to be attacked and robbed late in the night. Since it is said that the devil finds work for an idle hand, I will appeal to the Kuffour administration to create jobs and adsorb many of the roaming youths that have resorted to armed robbery as a last resort. The attack on tourists by armed criminals could seriously affect the tourism industry in Ghana. Currently Kenya is going through the same problem as armed robbers pounce on tourists and rob them daily with impunity. The brazen activities of armed robbers and the lack of adequate security for Ghanaians is also preventing many Ghanaians outside the country from traveling home for holidays. Their refusal to travel home can adversely affect the economy. We can also talk about investors who would find it very difficult to invest in a country that their officials cannot walk or sleep in the night.

This was lifted from his blog, I believe, but why did you not wait until he had posted the rest of the story, which he promised to do, to post it. Had you done so, it would be known that Ikeagwu noted that he has always maintained good relations in his business and personal dealings with Ghanaian producers and directors and that this was an isolated incident that unfortunately happened to him also because he did not do his homework fully. Nefarious characters are everywhere. The first thing the man implored was that this story, his experience, not be used to fuel any already ongoing Nollywood vs. Ghallywood contention. His telling it (on his personal blog I might add) was his way of dealing with it.

just because power is not on 24/7 does not mean there is no light at all. big difference and when was the last time you've been to Nigeria? everyone is talking about how there is power at least 70% of the time, NOW. and it was only in the last two years that Ghana started having constant electricity, don't lie. I'm sure Ghana was generators and jaga jaga all over the place too, so? don't act like you haven't seen it before. we Nigerians are STRONG! we don't let little things like power stop us. When i visited, there was hardly any power either, but everyone was still happy, smiling, having fun. having power does not make a person. Often times, we forget about it. and please stay current on Nigeria. many states are making Okadas/motor bikes illegal in the cities, Nigeria is getting there. stop talking about old s**t, we are talking about today. Lagos will soon pass that same law, so our streets will become safer/cleaner. and even at that, whats wrong with motor bikes? they are used all over Europe and Asia, only that they are used in a safer way. so there is really nothing wrong with motor bikes, like you're trying to make it seem. hahahahaha Ghanaians confusing bad English with accent. "even ur president cant speak even speak good engllish nor even u!" ????? hahahahahaha!! people would just laugh at you. how many people can really tell the difference between a Nigerian and Ghanaian when speaking English? they all have the same thick ass accent. Even if there are power cuts in Nigeria , the standard of living of NIGERIANS is 1000 years ahead of that of Ghanaians who are primitive and wretchedly poor! No way can you even come near Nigerians in class and standard of living. Ghanaians are too inferior to Nigerians! Power cuts ? No problem to us ! Millions of Nigerians possess generators . How many Ghanaians can even boast of that ? 1% of Ghanaians ! Ghana has power cuts too but the people remain in darkness while they last because they are too poor! The Ghanaian populace is so primitive and wretched that even if they saw an electricity generator , how many Ghanaians could even recognise what it is? Say what you like , Ghanaians are inferior to NIGERINS and you will forever be inferior to us; whether or not every inch of Ghana is flooded with electricity 24/7 and with OIL ! Eye know person wey pass am but mouth will not admit it! Eternal shame of backwardness to Ghana. Amen!

A TAMALE District Magistrate Court has granted GH¢30,000 bail to Richmond Kankam aka Kofi Mensah with two sureties, one to be justified with building documents, to reappear on October 15, 2010. The suspect will also report every Monday to the investigator until otherwise determined by the court on the next adjournment date. Kankam, 27, who has made several appearances in court, is facing charges of preparedness to commit robbery contrary to section 19 and 150 of the criminal offences Act after his arrest by Tamale police a couple of weeks ago. The suspect, an employee of Prudential Bank in Kumasi police say was arrested while allegedly making efforts to recruit and train persons for armed robbery purposes in the city. Initially he claimed he was a former employee of the bank but after officials identified him he refuted his initial claim. Though they failed to divulge what he was doing in the north, deep throat sources told DAILY GUIDE the suspect allegedly embezzled several thousands of Ghana Cedis belonging to customers of the bank and has ever since gone into hiding. Our source disclosed he was a cashier with the bank and that each time clients came to deposit monies he allegedly diverted the cash and later absconded. He was also on the wanted list of the bank. Soon after his arrest customers started trooping into the Ashanti Regional offices of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to lodge complaints about his scandals that led to the loss of their cash. It would be recalled that the suspect, a resident of Abuakwa, a Kumasi suburb was arrested with the help of some civilians while supposedly making moves to recruit his applicants. Briefing the media on the arrest earlier, Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Ebenezer Tetteh disclosed that the suspect arrived in the region during the early hours of May 19 and checked into Baobab Guest House at Gumani. He was reported to have met one Emmanuel Yaw Agbemovor, a former employee of the guest house who helped him check in. Police said he later invited Agbemovor and asked him to assist him get strong brave men to aid him in carrying out an operation in Kumasi but he resisted. Upon the suspect's insistence however he later obliged and in turn informed his younger brother about the proposal. Kankam who was satisfied with the number took them through some rigorous training and schooled them on certain technical terms which included “wound” which means “kill” and “vanish” meaning they should bury their victims while on operation. He was said to have also taken them through handling of knives and other life threatening gadgets and told them the operation was set to take place at Kumasi around 2pm the following day. According to the chief inspector, their targets were filling stations, banks. They were also set to do some car hijacking including robbing certain prominent rich men in the gardencity. After completing all the drills they checked out of the hotel and headed towards the state transport yard in a taxi cab where they were expected board a bus en route to Kumasi, the operational venue. On the way however, the COP instructed that the vehicle drive straight to the Sakasaka police station where Kankam was arrested and placed behind bars. DAILY GUIDE gathered as at press time that he was yet to meet the bail requirements to enable him enjoy his freedom after nearly two months in detention.

hahahahahahaha!!! what do you mean "go back to your country" it has NOTHING to do with that! it just goes to show that bad things do happen in Ghana, like a like of delusional Ghanaians (like yourself) like to believe otherwise. they talk as if Ghana is Jerusalem. hahahahahahahahaha!!!! tomorrow if it were in Nigeria, you would say something else. why are Ghanaians so typical and hypocritical? HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!! you REALLY think Nigerians need Ghanaians? what world are you living in? how many Ghanaian companies are in Nigeria? HOW MANY? lmfao!!! at least 15% of your workforce is employed either directly or indirectly by Nigerians. GET OVER IT! recently Ghanaians got their smelling selves on a plane ALLLLLLLL the way to Nigeria and found one Nigerian guy that is now going to help and develop some sort of transportation system in Ghana. YET YOU PEOPLE DONT NEED US? YET THEY CAME ALL THE WAY ON A PLANE FROM GHANA IN SEARCH OF A NIGERIAN TO HELP THEM IN THEIR COUNTRY? WHAT HAPPENED TO THE GOOD GHANAIANS THEY COULD HAVE CHOSEN FROM THEIR OWN BACKYARD? you're just one person that cannot accept the truth. I mean, tomorrow they will be trying some s****d s**t with the Nigerian guy, and making his life hell in Ghana. I wish the Nigerian guy would come home and not work with you f**ls. he can go to ANY other African country but NOT Ghana-Nigeria's biggest haters/enemies/enemies of progress, etc.... thats all you people are.

Manfo Asiedu , the Ghanaian suicide bomber is a criminal and murderer who tried to lie his way out of his guilt. But he got a whooping 33 years sentence which is even far less than this criminal Ghanaian deserved!! Like ALL Ghanaians do , Asiedu tried to heap all the blame on his co- bombers ,the other four accused men but Asiedu , the coward and liar , failed woefully! ***** Four men are found guilty of plotting to bomb London's transport network on 21 July, 2005, two weeks after the 7/7 bombings (see July 21, 2005). After a six-month trial, the jury unanimously convicts Muktar Ibrahim, Yassin Omar, Ramzi Mohammed, and Hussain Osman, of conspiracy to murder. The four are sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum sentence of 40 years. Evidence included thousands of hours of CCTV film, as well as a suicide note left by Mohammed for his girlfriend and two children asking them to “rejoice in happiness.” The men had also been monitored attending a militant training camp in the Lake District in 2004 (see May 2-August 2004). [BBC, 7/11/2007] Shortly before the retrial is to begin, Asiedu pleads guilty and is sentenced to 33 years in prison, while Yahya pleads guilty to a lesser charge of possessing terrorist information and is sentenced to seven years in prison. [LONDON TIMES, 11/5/2007; DAILY TELEGRAPH, 11/21/2007] The defendants claim that the bombs were fakes and that the plot was a protest against the war in Iraq. Prosecutor Nigel Sweeney tells the jury that the plot “had been in existence long before the events of July 7” and was not a “hastily-arranged copycat” operation. Responding to the defense, Sweeney says: “The failure of those bombs to explode owed nothing to the intention of these defendants, rather it was simply the good fortune of the traveling public that day that they were spared.” [BBC, 7/10/2007] The judge, Justice Adrian Fulford, also dismisses the suggestion that the men did not intend to cause carnage. He says, “This was a viable and a very nearly successful attempt at mass murder.” [BBC, 7/11/2007]

For maximum entertainment and if you want to fall down laughing , rolling on the floor;, line up Ghanaians and ask them to do 2 things. First , ask them to state the REAL identity of their fathers; i.e. his names , home addresses and nationality ! The look of confusion on their faces would amuse you , so much! Some Ghanaians would be speechless and even very angry that you asked such a question! Most Ghanaian do not know these answers , so they bear their mothers' surnames and nationality! Secondly, ask Ghanaians to pronounce the words; " father , (faard-air) , mother (meerd-air), sister (seest-air) , brother ( brad-air ). nineeteen ( naiy - tain), sixteen ( seext-ain) ! The words in brackets are the funny and ugly Ghanaian accents for these words. Many other words are "massacred" by Ghanaians in their efforts to speak what they call "English". As far as accents and family history are concerned ; Ghanaians are ZERO and we Nigerians consider them as objects of ridicule and shame !!

Its very surprising when Tony starts publising false newspaper stories about Ghana. How can u call Nigeria a serious country when over 60 million people own generator. Nigeria is just like Yakubu at the world cup.

its hilarious because most of these stories come from Ghanaian websites. LOL! so even those ones are fake? I'm sure if it were a Nigerian, you would believe it, no matter the source. you people LOVE anything negative that includes Nigeria. Even the other day a man was set on fire in Accra for stealing. I didn't know Ghanaians set people on fire for stealing, why not just call the police? so you people are barbaric also? hmmmm....and tomorrow they will say "its only Nigerians that can do such" I TOLD YOU GHANAIANS WOULD EVEN CUT OFF THEIR OWN ARM AND SWEAR TO GOD THAT THEY ARE ANGELS. LMFAO! and even Ghana didn't start seeing uninterrupted power until less than two years ago. so did you people have generators? couldn't afford them? or were you living in the dark? LOL
NII | 8/19/2010 11:51:07 AM
Ghanaians are not like nigerians. we all know what a nigerian can do .even to the extent of killing others on an airplane. that is what we know nigeria 4.we don't have uninterrupted power supply like nigerian . in nigeria every 10 minutes the lights goes off.when we talk about stealing and crime the first ctry that comes to mind is nigeria with ur degree in fraud. we don't what ur bad behaviours to affect our ctry and movie industry/

we also know what Ghanaians are capable of. they are even capable of killing a ton of innocent people on a train in London. or are you forgetting that Ghanaian terrorist that is now doing 33 years in prison for his failed terror attack? and in Nigeria its not every 10 minutes that the light goes off, stop listening to gossip. I'm sure you've never been there. people are NOW seeing light 70% of the time as opposed to before when it would be 30% of the time. and if you think our "bad behavior" is affecting your movie industry, TELL YOUR ACTORS TO GET THE f**k OUT AND STOP COMING TO NIGERIA, f*****g LEECHES. HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO NIGERIA TO SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE, OR ARE YOU JUST GOSSIPING? DONT THROW STONES IN A GLASS HOUSE. so are you now ready to deny this?? "Even the other day a man was set on fire in Accra for stealing. I didn't know Ghanaians set people on fire for stealing, why not just call the police? so you people are barbaric also? and Ghanaian people do steal too? hmmmm....and tomorrow they will say "its only Nigerians that can do such" when will ANTI-NIGERIANS STOP COMING TO THIS WEBSITE?! ANSWER ME.
