Francis Duru

Coming on the heels of the recent rift between Nigerian actors and the Ghanaian government where Nollywood actors are expected to be heavily levied before they can be allowed to be cast in movies produced in Ghana, veteran actor, Francis Duru has slammed the Ghanaian government for making things difficult for Nigerian actors and movie experts who have contributed immensely to the growth of the Ghanaian film industry.

In a chat with NFC, the pioneer actor who was hurled into the limelight with his roles in popular flicks like ‘Rattle Snake,’ ‘Living in Bondage’ and many other movies made it clear that Ghana ought to be grateful to Nigerian actors and actresses who have helped Ghanaians develop their country’s movie industry rather than asking them to pay heavily before being allowed to be cast in films produced in Ghana or being permitted to shoot films in Ghana.

“How can the Ghanaian government ask us to come and pay first before we shoot movies in Ghana? I believe that they should be thankful to us for helping them develop their movie industry to the level it is now,” he said. He also blamed Nigerians for not appreciating the huge reservoir of talent at its disposal. “All I can say about this issue is that we as Nigerians do not value what we have here and you know that when you don’t value a thing, abuse is inevitable.”

He stressed that the mistake Nigerian actors made was to have been too open-minded which he said, has allowed Ghanaians to learn from them. He noted that this explains why they have suddenly turned around to work against Nigerians. He however, urged Nigerian practitioners to believe in their abilities in order to raise the standard of their individual and collective game.

The Abuja-based actor also lamented the spate of piracy that has robbed producers of their hard-earned investments in movie production; blaming the respective government agencies and industry practitioners alike for paying lip service to the crusade against piracy in the country.

Duru, who attempted to proffer solutions to the problem of piracy in Nigeria advocated for a reduction in the unit price of home video CDs.

He explained that this would further endear more people to purchase copies of the movies. “Imagine if you do 10 million copies of your movie and you sell each for N100.00. Why would anybody go and rent it or mass produce it; when you have already flooded the market with it,” he asked. He added that “the simple truth is that until we get distribution right in this country, piracy will continue.”

Speaking further, he also noted that distribution should not be concentrated in the hands of few individuals, but qualified specialists and bodies within the industry. He stressed that even those complaining about piracy are practicing pirates themselves.

When asked if the release of films at cinemas before home video release was not a better way of ensuring the success of the movie, the University of Port Harcourt-trained actor disagreed with this strategy saying the cinema is an elitist culture practiced in advanced countries of the world and would not reach the type of audience Nigerian producers are targeting.

“Cinema, as a culture is elitist in nature and is not so ingrained in the Nigerian way of life but when you have a product that cuts across housewives, artisans, students, ‘Okada riders,’ middle class and even senators and governors, you want to make sure they all have access to it,” he explained.

Speaking on the activities of the Nigerian Films and Censors Board (NFCB) in the task of regulating the industry especially in the area of distribution and piracy, Duru noted that the agency has not done enough. He added that if the National Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) can be successful in fighting drug counterfeiting in the country, there is no reason why the NFCB should not be successful in their regulatory work.

But what you find is that today, the Censors Board is just paperwork, without any bite, and today, they are still in contention with the Nigeria Copyright Commission (NCC) over the issue of piracy in Nigeria.”

He also berated the level of mediocrity in the industry that has allowed marketers to steal the show from professionals; who have restricted themselves to the peanuts being handed over to them by the marketers with fat pockets.

According to him, “It even gets pathetic when you look at what happens today when you look at people who have contributed so much to the industry and have nothing to show for it. What you now see is that even though people need your product, you are restricted to peanuts because forces of distribution and piracy have not allowed your work to show.”

The actor, who is also the Director, Media and Publicity for the National Anti-Human Trafficking Campaign said the appointment of professionals from the Nigerian entertainment industry to high positions in government is a welcome development, which shows the level of confidence the society has in the industry. This was against the backdrop of the appointment by the Imo State Government as an Adviser to the Governor, Ikedi Ohakim, of former president of the Actors Gild of Nigerian (AGN), Ejike Asiegbu; Richard Mofe Damijo’s appointment as a Commissioner in Edo State, as well as former radio presenter, Livi Ajuomuna’s appointment as the Head of the Corporate Affairs Department of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

I implore Nigerians not to use them anymore. Is because there country is poor, that is why they want to impose heavy fine on us and they also know that nigeria is a blessed and rich country. Pls all nigerians do not go there anymore and do not do business with them again. Even in UK if you work with Chanaians they always behave like a slave to the whites. they dont like nigerians but they prentend. Leave them alone and let's see who is going to suffer. s****d PPLE.

Ghanaians are armed robbers!
Tony | 8/6/2010 11:09:13 PM |
We are not surprised at the thieving , ungrateful b*****ds called Ghanaians!

This ia a recent news report from Ghanaweb!

**Ghana is facing a national crisis. There have been regular reports of armed rampage in the nation but so far, the president has not recognized it as a developing national crisis, nor the need to address the issue publicly.

Armed robbers killed a British national, Mr. John Garett at his residence at Lateh-Akuapem. Armed robbers murdered Italian national, Mr. Roberto Massimo, Managing director of BRM Wood Processing Company at his North Ola residence in Cape Coast. Armed robbers killed a cargo truck driver, Mr. Alhaji Asshaqu Ibrahim when they attacked traders at Babatokuma, near Kintampo. But it was not the right moment for the president to speak on the matter.

Armed robbers killed a Ghanaian who had traveled to Ghana for the Homecoming Summit. In between, there have been reports of armed robbers taking over a whole community at gunpoint, but Mr. Kuffour probably explained to his visiting dignitaries that it was just an isolated incident. Armed robbers are mounting roadblocks at will and extorting money from market women at gunpoint, but that too is not a threat to the national economy. Mr. Chester Dzisah and his 12-year old Chester Dzisah, Jnr. were murdered in an attempt to assist a neighbor (Pastor Owusu Ansah and his family) who was in being attacked; several pastors have also been attacked including Reverend Robert Dawson-Amoah, Ayofui Anglican Church who was shot in the thigh, and Reverend Bennet Abaka-Wilson, Saltpond Methodist Church but Mr. Kuffour does not see this menace as a threat to national security.
In October 2002, Nana Amoo (Pozzo) also died at the hands armed robbers, but that incident was a part of trend, which befalls nations that are developing economically.
Then in November, Mr. Stephen Mintah, a father of eight was shot twice in the head because the poor driver could only find 8,000 ($1) for the armed robbers who had invaded his home. Still Mr. Kuffour does not see a national emergency in this unfortunate trend. This list is but just a few of the ones that registered in the national headlines. Many others, like Nana Yaw Acheampong (Owuahene), a cousin of this writer who was fatally assaulted at Nadieso, near Nkawkaw was not covered by any news media.
Shame on Ghana !

When we pass our comment of anger, they the journalist become happy because they know that people are following them. they are unprofessional that is why they often write trash because they know we will read and comment on it. Whether you are an American, Bulgarian, Algerian, Hungarian, Indian Ivorian, Egyptian, Nigerian, Ghanaian, we are all one people created by the same almighty so we should a stop to this fighting because it will take us no where. One has to set the pace for the other to follow and all Nigerians should be proud because they have made an impact in another country. United we stand, divided we fall. Let fly high the flag of Africa because we are Africans. God bless everybody.

Ghanaians are shameless lying b*****ds!
This is a BBC News report about the Ghanaian murderer who tried to blow up the London Underground , on 21st July 2005.
As usual , being a devilish Ghanaian , the b*****d tried to lie and deny the whole thing!
Read this:
***
A man accused of being the fifth bomber on 21 July 2005 has admitted conspiracy to cause explosions. Manfo Kwaku Asiedu portrayed himself as a reluctant bomber.
Manfo Kwaku Asiedu is probably the most enigmatic of the 21 July defendants - the man who tried a desperate "cut-throat" defence but ultimately admitted his guilt, all be it to a lesser degree than the four other bombers.
Asiedu presented himself in the dock as a man under the psychological control of Muktar Ibrahim - and a man who did not want to blow himself up.
He abandoned his device on the morning of the attacks, leaving the explosives to be found by a park-keeper - but his account of the final days was as murky as his entire life story.
Back in Ghana, the 21 July bomber had been brought up a Muslim in what appears to have been a well-to-do family. He had studied to the equivalent of A-level standard and went into the agriculture business with his family.

On reaching the UK he sought out local mosques where he could pray and also help with voluntary work. One of the first mosques he visited was Finchley, also frequented by co-defendant Yassin Omar.Among his friends from the mosque - and among the defendants - he was known as Ismail.

But prosecutors Nigel Sweeney QC and Max Hill said Asiedu's story was not to be trusted.
"Asiedu waited until the end of the Crown's evidence before revealing what he now says is his truthful account as to the real suicide and murder plot," said Mr Hill.
"He was content to sit and wait through week after week of prosecution evidence, seeing, you may think, whether the case did indeed stand up.
"They are desperate men and desperate men will do anything if they perceive it to be in their own interest."
Very correct ! b*****d Ghanaians are first class desperate liars.

YAW ASAMOAH, EAST BLEGON, GH. | 8/5/2010 12:06:43 PM
Hi Francis Duru,
You are an actor Ghanaians like very much and I would have liked you to have checked your facts very well before making those categorical statements.
For the records most Nigerians came to learn at the then GOLD COAST FILM UNIT in the FIFTIES when Nigeria could NOT boast of any FILM INDUSTRY. Secondly The NATIONAL FILM AND TELEVISION INDUSTRY (NAFTI) has been in existence since 1978 where a lot of Film producers, Directors, Photographers etc from Nigeria and other African countries have been trained. It is indeed on RECORD that Ghana started VIDEO production before Nigeria. Remember 'HERITAGE AFRICA' a film produced in Ghana ( the cast was wholly Ghanaian) has won the HIGHEST AFRICAN AWARD. Unfortunately I do not appear to have seen any Nigerian film that has won such a high award. Please correct me if I am wrong.
I am sad to see some of the comments that have been made by both Ghanaians and Nigerians on the issue and I think it would have been better if you had been a little bit circumspect.
Contrary to the views expressed by some of my NIGERIAN BROTHERS I do not think the decision to levy the taxes on Nigerian ACTORS and ACTRESSES has been fully endorsed by our Government ( please check this with our Ministry in charge of TOURISM). Whatever be the case I think there should be a representation to sort things out.
How happy Nigerians were when Ghana was holding high the flag of AFRICA in the World cup! How happy Ghanaians were when the Nigerian Ladies went to the Finals last Sunday and how heart-broken some of us were when they could not lift the cup!
I entreat AGN or whoever is responsible to bring this issue of 'TAXES” to an amicable solution.
I WILL NEVER FORGET HOW A NIGERIAN HELPED ME IN SINGAPORE AND ANOTHER ONE IN TURKEY HENCE MY LITTLE PIECE!!!!
WHETHER YOU BELIEVE IT OR NOT I AM A GHANAIAN BUT A PRODUCT OF UNILAG! LET US KEEP THE FLAG OF AFRICA BURNING (NOT NIGERIA, NOT GHANA)
Francis, you nearly lost an ardent admirer and a fan but I still can't help admiring you!

I applaud the Ghanian gov't for tryin to regularize things.
All workers do have to pay taxes because this is the way an economy grows.
The rate perhaps a little high but there is nothing wrong in the Ghanian gov't trying to do right by its people. They are a clever set.
Actors! you don't want to share ya fees its understandable! so what you have to do is ask for higher fees so that when you pay taxes,u can still have something to call ya own.
Stop screaming and stand for what is right which is exactly what the Ghanian gov't is doing.

FOCUS ON WHAT IS RELEVANT
Kobena | 8/6/2010 11:12:48 AM
It is imperative that we come together and solve our problems rather than engaging in this useless war of words. The man is expressing his opinion and as a Ghanaian i do not see any problem with that. I have so many nigerian friends and some of them are very lovely. My sister is married to a Nigerian and they are doing fine. There is corruption everywhere and we should come together to solve that problem . We should crave to eliminate cross-border crimes. We should improve infrastructure and provide better health care for our people and not fight each other for who has made an industry better. People even talk about accent--for christ sake the purpose of speaking is to understand the message and i do get it when nigerians speak. Please let's focus on what is important and relevant.

Ghanaians- lying b*****ds
Tony | 8/6/2010 10:46:45 PM

Ghanaians are armed robbers !
Tony | 8/6/2010 11:12:45 PM

Terrible Crises in Ghana !
Jude | 8/6/2010 11:29:02 PM
THIS REPORT from a Ghanaian newspaper dated 28/05/10 is just one, out of hundreds of such reports detailing the terrible situations of daily life in Ghana !
These reports confirm the TRUE situation in Ghana; which Ghanaian liars are ALWAYS concealing and deceiving the whole world that "Ghana is a VERY PEACEFUL and DEMOCRATIC PARADISE , BETTER THAN NIGERIA ! "
Ghanaians are VERY WICKED and evil-minded people . They are criminals who HATE and attack each other and all foreigners , especially Nigerians who they ENVY and HATE , at sight! They attack , kill and rob people all over Ghana !
The situation in Ghana is so BAD that thousands of Ghanaians have ran away from Ghana as refugees to Togo!

From Ghanaweb
Ghana:Government Prepares for Refugees' Return
28 May 2010
Accra — The Ghanaian government will set up shelters for 1,000 returning refugees who fled to neighbouring Togo to escape violence in Bawku in Upper East region following land disputes that have been mounting since late April.
The Togolese authorities had set up temporary camps in Tandjouare, in the north near the Ghanaian border.
"It's an emergency situation and the sooner a coordinated response can be taken, the better," UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) spokesperson in Ghana, Awurabena Hutchful, told IRIN.
Bawku has frequently experienced clashes between residents and migrants who came to the area decades ago to trade and put down roots. The violence often falls along ethnic lines, with the Kusasi and Manprusi pitted against one another.
The last major clash took place in 2001 when 28 people were killed. Some 1,000 were killed in clashes over land ownership in 1994 and 1995.

UNHCR has provided tents, food and security for the refugees, said Hutchful, and will deliver more non-food items in a few days' time. The agency and the Togolese government counted 3,247 refugees in Togo during a joint assessment, but the Ghana Deputy Information Minister disputes the figure, saying just 1,000 refugees need shelter.
A Ghana government team is being set up to rebuild all the houses that were destroyed in Bawku. Three trucks loaded with roofing sheets have already been dispatched. In the interim, "the government will have the refugee camp in Togo relocated here [Ghana] even if the rebuilding will be too long. We are of the view that it is better for them to be in Ghana instead of Togo," said Deputy Information Minister, Samuel Okudjato Ablakwa.
The decision followed a 26 May meeting between Ghanaian President Atta Mills and Togolese national security coordinator, Gbevlo Lartey, and other Togolese officials to discuss a solution to the crisis.

Tony | 8/6/2010 11:48:37 PM
Even inside their churches in Ghana , they are WICKED , showing no love and no peace to each other!
The Ghanaian National DEVILISH character manifests , strongly , all over !
They always fight and tear each other apart because of their wickedness and devilish competition ! This they do to both their fellow Ghanaians and to foreigners!
Many Nigerian pastors in Ghana have lost their churches to their Ghanaian members who ganged up against them and drove the pastors from the churches , calling them " foreigners who have come to set up churches in Ghana !"
This is the wickedness of Ghanaians which they hide until they see that the Nigerian pastors' churches have grown into membership of thousands and they must have built big and beautiful churches. Then the Ghanaian devils within the churches would attack them and send them away , empty-handed !!

This shameful and wicked attack happened in a Ghanaian church , recently!
THIS IS "PEACEFUL GHANA" , for you !
300 Members Flee For Dear Life Over 300 members of the Saviour Church of Ghana have been forced to flee their homes, for fear of their lives following alleged attacks by a faction of the church as a result of a split in the hierarchy.

The refugees, comprising 91 children and 221 adults led by Elias Asirifie, have fled from the Osiem branch of the church in the Eastern Region and other branches, to Gomoa Nyanyanor in the Central Region.
The Chronicle has learnt that the division had been raging for the past three years and the victims had been compelled to live at Nyanyano from their original homes since then.
They do not have any shelter besides the local mission house. The majority of them therefore sleep under trees adjoining the house. There is no potable water in the town, and they have only one water tank, which is filled once a week by when members of their church from other branches come for worship. Apart from this, they rely on water from ponds.
Many of the members who are farmers have no access to land and therefore have no reliable source of livelihood. As a result, their children have not been attending school.
On hearing of the plight of the refugees, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), last weekend, donated relief items including rice, cooking oil, tents and blanket worth ¢30 million to them.
Alhaji Suleimana Yerimea, Head of Relief and Reconstruction, said NADMO, initially, saw the problem as a religious conflict and not a disaster, adding that this explained why it took such a long time to intervene.
He said it was only two weeks ago that NADMO got news of the conditions they were living in and when its officials got there and saw their plight, especially the women and children, it was decided to help them on humanitarian grounds.
Alhaji Yerimea, however, warned them that the government could not continue to look after them indefinitely and therefore urged the two factions to find a solution to the problem as quickly as possible.
An elder of the church told The Chronicle that the problems of the church began in 1997 when the founder, Isaac Kojo Asirifie died, and a successor was to be chosen. Power struggle ensued between the son of the founder Elias Asirifie and his nephew Abraham Kweku Asirifie.
The church has been existing with two factions and have been experiencing sporadic eruption of violence in which houses and other properties destroyed allegedly by the faction loyal Abraham Asirifie, forcing Elias and his followers to flee.
According to Elias, several cases of the attacks launched against them had been reported to the police some of them were before the courts

"Democracy " in Ghana
Tony | 8/7/2010 12:01:25 AM
This news report by Kwame S. Blege , in a Ghanaian newspaper confirms the fake " democracy and peace " which Ghanaians are making noise about !
This further proves that Ghanaians are very deceitful and shameless b*****ds.

** Ethnic conflicts in the Northern Region
The relationship between the various ethnic groups in the Northern Region has not been continuously stable. In particular, conflicts have been smoldering for a long time between the Dagomba on the one hand and the 'nomadic' Konkomba on the other. In the eyes of many among the dominating Dagomba, the Konkomba are landless intruders and bandits, who penetrated into the areas of the Dagomba only in the colonial ages. However, this view of the origins and history of the Konkomba in this region of Ghana is not shared by themselves, and it is not supported by the scientific research on this area, especially not by any academic writing on the Konkomba or Dagomba published before the 1994 conflict. 1994 experienced the worst ethnic conflicts ever in Ghana . The conflict spread to other groups, and ended up with several thousand dead. However, due to the continuous conflict many people have migrated from the region. Besides, there has been a tremendous killing in the region. From the population of 1,820,806 in the region shown in the 2000 census, it has now decreased by about 30%.

TRIBALISM IN GHANA
A Dagbon youth leader Mr Ibrahim Tanko, appealed to politicians to stay away from the conflict. I know this would not be heeded because the politician thinks he knows best.
For lovers of movies; have you ever watched this movie? It is titled “Sometimes In April”. The genocide in Rwanda was acted in this movie and it showed how tribal war turned into national war. The first time I watched this movie I was close to tears. Hatred for each other on tribal basis which was taken for granted resulted in the killing of a president and other top officials who do not belong to the dominant tribe.
We live in Ghana and say that Ghana has gotten to that level where there would be no war. Our heads are swollen like the village boy who happens to be the first to attend university.

Nigeria has been there, Cote d' Ivoire is there and thinking of when to come back, Liberia and Sierra Leone were there and are back.
Natives of the three Northern Regions where are they? I do not feel comfortable when people say things that sound degrading about the Northern Region. Right from morning shows to the drinking beer, to the mosque and the church. Some Ghanaians say things like 'we are tired of them', 'they can continue to kill themselves', 'they are wasting our money' and ' Ghana should even be divided so that they would not be part of us'.
It is sad that even people who do not deserve to insult Northerners are doing so with all the freedom. It is said 'if you make a mouse of yourself the cat will feast on you' No one has the right to look down on other men. We are all born equal whether on hospital beds or behind the bath house on plantain leaves. Did we all not come to this world with bloody umbilical cords? I know that the three Northern Regions has influential men and women who can stand up tall and work hard to bring this problem of conflict in the Northern Region to an end.

'No one points his left finger to his home' is a wise saying which should guide influential natives of the three Northern Regions to stand up tall and bring peace to their native land.
The politicians should come together in finding a lasting solution to the conflict rather than finding fault with each other. The political colouring of the Dagbon and Bawku conflicts will not brighten the future of the Northern Region.
Natives of Dagbon and Bawku rise up and take a clue from the late reggae artiste, Joseph Hill. Joseph Hill says 'TRIBAL WAR CAN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM'

Ghanaians are criminals
Tony | 8/7/2010 11:09:05 AM
The CONSTANT r*****h comments which these Ghanaian b*****ds are writing here, prove that Ghanaians are possessed with the demons of lying and hypocrisy !
Below is a recent news report in a Ghanaian newspaper about frequent armed robberies in Ghana.
* * Ghanaians are currently enduring serious social and economic problems. And to add to their woes, the nation has for the past two years been infested with dangerous armed robbers of all shades. These armed robbers who use sophisticated weapons have become so daring that they operate in broad daylight!
There have been many instances where Ghanaians resident abroad who have returned home for holidays or to invest their monies have been targeted and robbed. A disturbing phenomenon of their activities is carjacking and highway robbery
Armed robbers brazenly snatch cars from their owners, waylay traders on the highways and deprive them of their monies and personal effects. In some cases they even murder their victims in cold blood.
Tourists who bring a lot of foreign exchange to help stimulate the economy have not been spared. There have been several reported attacks of tourists by armed robbers even at their hotels.
The activities of these armed robbers have compelled many Ghanaians to live in fear. It is not uncommon to get a phone call from a friend or a relative lamenting the armed robbery situation in Ghana.
It is therefore gratifying that President Kuffour has appealed to Ghanaians to be vigilant in their communities and expose armed robbers and miscreants to make the work of the police successful.
This blunt statement by the president is an indication of how serious armed robbery is in Ghana today and how the situation is getting out of hand.
This appeal does not go far to address the problem, which keeps expanding daily.

It has been reported several times that most of these armed robbers operate at the Kotoka International Airport. Some of the criminals pose as genuine people who have come to the airport to meet their relatives from abroad.
The situation is so bad that it is a struggle for arriving travelers with luggage to meander through the usual crowd of loiterers, just to exit the gate and join a vehicle. We all know that they just loiter around to know who just arrived in town with a lot of " booty" to facilitate their nefarious activities.
While some passengers have been chased immediately after leaving the airport and robbed on the highway, others have been followed to their houses only to be attacked and robbed late in the night.

Since it is said that the devil finds work for an idle hand, I will appeal to the Kuffour administration to create jobs and adsorb many of the roaming youths that have resorted to armed robbery as a last resort.
The attack on tourists by armed criminals could seriously affect the tourism industry in Ghana. Currently Kenya is going through the same problem as armed robbers pounce on tourists and rob them daily with impunity.
The brazen activities of armed robbers and the lack of adequate security for Ghanaians is also preventing many Ghanaians outside the country from traveling home for holidays. Their refusal to travel home can adversely affect the economy.
We can also talk about investors who would find it very difficult to invest in a country that their officials cannot walk or sleep in the night.

Thieving Ghanaians!
Tony | 8/7/2010 11:19:56 AM
A TAMALE District Magistrate Court has granted GH¢30,000 bail to Richmond Kankam aka Kofi Mensah with two sureties, one to be justified with building documents, to reappear on October 15, 2010.
The suspect will also report every Monday to the investigator until otherwise determined by the court on the next adjournment date.
Kankam, 27, who has made several appearances in court, is facing charges of preparedness to commit robbery contrary to section 19 and 150 of the criminal offences Act after his arrest by Tamale police a couple of weeks ago.
The suspect, an employee of Prudential Bank in Kumasi police say was arrested while allegedly making efforts to recruit and train persons for armed robbery purposes in the city.
Initially he claimed he was a former employee of the bank but after officials identified him he refuted his initial claim.
Though they failed to divulge what he was doing in the north, deep throat sources told DAILY GUIDE the suspect allegedly embezzled several thousands of Ghana Cedis belonging to customers of the bank and has ever since gone into hiding.
Our source disclosed he was a cashier with the bank and that each time clients came to deposit monies he allegedly diverted the cash and later absconded. He was also on the wanted list of the bank.
Soon after his arrest customers started trooping into the Ashanti Regional offices of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to lodge complaints about his scandals that led to the loss of their cash.
It would be recalled that the suspect, a resident of Abuakwa, a Kumasi suburb was arrested with the help of some civilians while supposedly making moves to recruit his applicants.

Briefing the media on the arrest earlier, Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Ebenezer Tetteh disclosed that the suspect arrived in the region during the early hours of May 19 and checked into Baobab Guest House at Gumani.
He was reported to have met one Emmanuel Yaw Agbemovor, a former employee of the guest house who helped him check in.
Police said he later invited Agbemovor and asked him to assist him get strong brave men to aid him in carrying out an operation in Kumasi but he resisted.
Upon the suspect's insistence however he later obliged and in turn informed his younger brother about the proposal.
Kankam who was satisfied with the number took them through some rigorous training and schooled them on certain technical terms which included “wound” which means “kill” and “vanish” meaning they should bury their victims while on operation.
He was said to have also taken them through handling of knives and other life threatening gadgets and told them the operation was set to take place at Kumasi around 2pm the following day.
According to the chief inspector, their targets were filling stations, banks. They were also set to do some car hijacking including robbing certain prominent rich men in the gardencity.
After completing all the drills they checked out of the hotel and headed towards the state transport yard in a taxi cab where they were expected board a bus en route to Kumasi, the operational venue.
On the way however, the COP instructed that the vehicle drive straight to the Sakasaka police station where Kankam was arrested and placed behind bars.

DAILY GUIDE gathered as at press time that he was yet to meet the bail requirements to enable him enjoy his freedom after nearly two months in detention.

33yrs for Ghanaian bomber !
Tony | 8/7/2010 9:41:18 PM
Manfo Asiedu , the Ghanaian suicide bomber is a criminal and murderer who tried to lie his way out of his guilt. But he got a whooping 33 years sentence which is even far less than this criminal Ghanaian deserved!!
Like ALL Ghanaians do , Asiedu tried to heap all the blame on his co- bombers ,the other four accused men but Asiedu , the coward and liar , failed woefully!
*****
Four men are found guilty of plotting to bomb London's transport network on 21 July, 2005, two weeks after the 7/7 bombings (see July 21, 2005).
After a six-month trial, the jury unanimously convicts Muktar Ibrahim, Yassin Omar, Ramzi Mohammed, and Hussain Osman, of conspiracy to murder. The four are sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum sentence of 40 years. Evidence included thousands of hours of CCTV film, as well as a suicide note left by Mohammed for his girlfriend and two children asking them to “rejoice in happiness.”
The men had also been monitored attending a militant training camp in the Lake District in 2004 (see May 2-August 2004).

[BBC, 7/11/2007] Shortly before the retrial is to begin, Asiedu pleads guilty and is sentenced to 33 years in prison, while Yahya pleads guilty to a lesser charge of possessing terrorist information and is sentenced to seven years in prison. [LONDON TIMES, 11/5/2007; DAILY TELEGRAPH, 11/21/2007] The defendants claim that the bombs were fakes and that the plot was a protest against the war in Iraq. Prosecutor Nigel Sweeney tells the jury that the plot “had been in existence long before the events of July 7” and was not a “hastily-arranged copycat” operation. Responding to the defense, Sweeney says: “The failure of those bombs to explode owed nothing to the intention of these defendants, rather it was simply the good fortune of the traveling public that day that they were spared.” [BBC, 7/10/2007] The judge, Justice Adrian Fulford, also dismisses the suggestion that the men did not intend to cause carnage. He says, “This was a viable and a very nearly successful attempt at mass murder.” [BBC, 7/11/2007]

Ugly accent and history !
Olu | 8/7/2010 10:29:54 PM
For maximum entertainment and if you want to fall down laughing , rolling on the floor;, line up Ghanaians and ask them to do 2 things.
First , ask them to state the REAL identity of their fathers; i.e. his names , home addresses and nationality !
The look of confusion on their faces would amuse you , so much!
Some Ghanaians would be speechless and even very angry that you asked such a question!
Most Ghanaian do not know these answers , so they bear their mothers' surnames and nationality!
Secondly, ask Ghanaians to pronounce the words; " father , (faard-air) , mother (meerd-air), sister (seest-air) , brother ( brad-air ). nineeteen ( naiy - tain), sixteen ( seext-ain) !
The words in brackets are the funny and ugly Ghanaian accents for these words.
Many other words are "massacred" by Ghanaians in their efforts to speak what they call "English".
As far as accents and family history are concerned ; Ghanaians are ZERO and we Nigerians consider them as objects of ridicule and shame !!

Ghanaians are only sure of who their mothers are , not their fathers ( FARD- AIR !)!
That is why Ghanaians are b*****ds ( besst -airds) bearing their mothers' surnames!
Who taught you people how to speak funny Ghanaian English?

WHO THE f**k IS FIGHTING WHO? WHO IS FIGHTING WHO? it is those deluded Ghanaians that keep trying to rival Nigeria in EVERYTHING! they cant even mention one good thing about their country without making snide comments about Nigeria/Nigerians.
YOU SEE THE COMMENT YOU JUST MADE ABOVE? ABOUT THE FOOTBALL? PERFECT EXAMPLE!!!! YOU PEOPLE CANT MAKE ANY GOOD COMMENTS ABOUT YOURSELF WITHOUT BAD MOUTHING NIGERIA(NS). STOP COMPETING! you don't hear Nigerians saying "our women's team made it all the way to the finals and not Ghana, therefore we "LEAD" in football." im sure had it been the other way around, thats what you would have heard from smelly Ghanaian mouths. just because they made it that far does not mean they "lead"
Lead in what exactly? AND WHO IS COMPETING?! GOSH!!!!! DONT YOU GOATS EVER GET TIRED?
we Nigerians do not need to tear others down just to have pride and feel good about ourselves. go to those Ghanaian websites and and see what I'm talking about. they must tear down Nigeria before they can feel good about themselves. THATS AN OBVIOUS COMPLEX!
when mentioning anything good about themselves, they must always add snide comments about Nigeria. why is that? what is their f*****g beef with us?

and @ the loser up there talking about a civil war in Nigeria. how f*****g dare you? IF YOU DID NOT STUDY THE WAR, THEN KEEP YOUR f*****g MOUTH SHUT! PUPPETS AND DOGS OF THE WHITE MAN.
Nigeria should not even be a country today. at least 50% or more of the African countries after gaining independence errupted in a civil war. YOU WANNA KNNOW WHY? because the countries should not be there!!!! WHEN THEY WENT TO BERLIN AND STARTED DIVIDING AFRICA LIKE A LARGE CAKE FROM THEIR OWN GREEDY INTERESTS! SOUTH EASTERN NIGERIA HAS MORE IN COMMON WITH CAMEROON, SOUTHWESTERN NIGERIA WITH BENIN, AND NOTHERN NIGERIA WITH NIGER.
you f*****g Dog! learn your s**t!
thats exactly why i say Ghanaians are f*****h and puppets of the white man. Some countries are fought in ethnic wars, and are still fighting today.
Look at Europe's history. France, Germany, Russia, etc.... when they were conquering other territories in Europe, what exactly happened? Wars broke out, Ethnic wars broke out, etc.... do you not know why the Soveit Union collapsed? do you not knnow? other reasons but mainly BECAUSE OF ETHNIC DIFFERENCES! PEOPLE WANTED THEIR OWN COUNTRIES! LOOK AT EUROPE TODAY! ALMOST EVERY COUNTRY IN EUROPE IS A HOMOGENEOUS ENVIRONMENT. SAME LANGUAGE, SIMILAR CULTURE, ETC...THATS WHY THEY ARE LIVING PEACEFULLY.
DO YOU SEE AFRICA? 200 ETHNIC GROUPS SQUASHED TOGETHER IN ONE COUNTRY, AND YOU THINK THINGS ARE GONNA BE ALL ROSEY?
like i said, you people are PUPPETS AND DOGS FOR THE WHITE MAN! PERIOD!
i don't know how f*****h Ghanaians can be. Yar'Adua got sick and died, SO f*****g WHAT? is that what you Ghanaians say to feel good about yourselves? GUESS WHAT, PEOPLE DIE!
are you a witch or something, are you immortal? do you think you will not die one day?
the "intelligence" if some people here is baffling!

I will say it again IF YOU CANNOT READ.
the height of all your movies is the sex/p**n scenes! that is extremely sad.
they use sex scenes to try and spice up an already boring/dead/lacking storyline. how sad is that?
and the only thing you people can name is Cossy all the time, what else can you say?
s****d GHANAIANS, EVERYDAY COSSY COSSY COSSY.
here is the difference between Cossy and that trash you people call actors:
Cossy was delivering a message, whether you people like it or not.
Nollywood movies tell stories...not just for Nigerians but for Africans alike. Basically what Cossy did was show how AFRICAN women (and women in general) that get into the sex industry have to go through just to make money. this has nothing to do with Nigerians alone...its a DAMN movie.
so if i ever hear another person here saying "Nigerians have sex with dogs" WTF? simply because we made the movie that delivered a message it means Nigerians sleep with dogs?
Tomorrow if Hollywood made a movie about women that sell their bodies for drugs, does that mean only American women sell their bodies for drug? NAH....its just telling a story.

how is the sex in your movies ever related to anything other than trying to spice up a dead storyline? abeg, tell me ooooo.

I'M 1000000000000000000% SURE YOU AREN'T EVEN LIVING IN GHANA. LIVING COMORTABLY IN THE WHITE MAN'S LAND BUT TALK ABOUT HOW "BAD" NIGERIA IS.
I'M SURE YOU'VE NEVER BEEN THERE.
IM MORE THAN SURE YOU ARE LIVING IN EUROPE OR AMERICA.
TALKING OUT OF TWO SIDES OF YOUR MOUTH.

as a Liberian i think Ghana is wrong for imposing that fee. first of all we ecowas and ecowas member has a right to do business in any ecowas country without any restriction expecially movies. I was so [prud os these two country for working together. when they work together their movies are very good. Nigerians also needs to stop saying that they made van Jackie and co which is not true i wasn't into African movies ltill i saw divine love, then mum mys daughter and beyonce. and these guys brought a lot of fans to nollywood because everybody consider all African movies as a nollywood production. My American and Caribbean friends started watching it when saw these guys. nigerian producers saw this and started using them. i blame these journalist because they know that ghana and nigeria always bring the fire in any argument. yes Ghana and Nigeria are rivals but i also think they are the closest of all African nations. they do everything together i wish Liberia and sierra Leone could do the same. it is really hard for me to distinguish between Nigerians and Ghanaian it seems they like the same things.

Most Ghanaians are though, they worship anything with white skin.
look up the word HOUSE NEGRO, you dumb i***t.
WHAT ARE THEY TEACHING YOU IN THOSE GHANAIAN SCHOOLS? you are just a sad product of your environment.

IgboQueen | 8/13/2010 2:24:22 AM |
you are MIXED RACE! you just said your Dad's mother is white and your Dad's Dad is African/Ghanaian.
therefore you are mixed race, and you do not count.
YOU ARE CARRYING OYINBO BLOOD.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA SEE!!! I KNEW IT! I SAID I WAS 10000000000% SURE YOU ARE NOT EVEN LIVING IN GHANA.
lemme ask you this. HOW DARE YOU TALK ABOUT NIGERIA BEING A BAD COUNTRY, AND HOW GHANA IS BETTER, YET YOU ARE NOT LIVING THERE?
if Ghana is so great, why don't you pack back to Ghana and enjoy your life? also....why not school in Ghana as well? Ghana is the best country on Earth, yet you are not living there.
WHAT A SHAME!!!!
you see why i said you talk out of two sides of your mouth, like most Ghanaians here do?
never in your miserable life trash Nigeria, yet you live in the white man's land and benefiting from them.
who gave you a VISA? who? with your terrible English. Incorrect spelling, wrong tenses, poor sentence structure.
ARE YOU REALLY IN THE UNIVERSITY? YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO WRITE! WHAT A BLOODY LIAR.

I did not insult the Chinese, i used them as an example. TELL ME, IS THEIR ACCENT "BETTER" THAN THE NIGERIAN ACCENT? TELL ME!
but tell me, aren't Chinese people some of the smartest and most successful people on this Earth? ARE THEY NOT? YES!
so tell me again....since when did speaking English like Americans or the British guarantee success? your accent has NOTHING to do with how successful you are. AFTER ALL, ENGLISH IS NOT OUR LANGUAGE! IT WAS IMPOSED ON US BY THE WHITE MAN.

I'm not interested in chatting with you, and I don't want to see your pictures. I do not care, I did not ask.
NOW f**k OFF.
hey shut up
stella | 8/13/2010 3:11:45 AM
AHAA SHUT UP I AM AN AFRICAN ,IF MY DAD IS MIX RACE OR SOMETHING DOES NOT MAKE ME A WHITE GIRL ,I AM A GHANAIN AND AM PROUD OF IT SO THAT MAKE ME AN AFRICAN LIKE YOU,GIVE ME YOUR NUMBER TO CALL YOU TO SAY SENSE INTO YOUR EARS YOU CAN GIVE ME YOUR SCHOOL NUMBER OR SOMETHING AND DONT CALL ME THAT I AM OYINBO I AM AN AFRICAN ,YOU MUST BE OUT OF YOUR MIND TO CALL ME THAT ,I AM PROUD AFRICAN ,AND IF I AM NOT IN GHANA DOES NOT MAKE ME BAD CITIZEN ,I LOVE GHANA AND IS MY HOME AND I CANT GO TO GHANA ALONE TO LIVE THERE B COS ALL MY FAMILLY LIVE IN STATES ,I VISIT GHANA WHN I WAS 12 YRS AND I WILL VISIT THE MYSELF ,AND FOR YOUR INFO MY PARENTS OWNS PROPERTY IN GHANA SO THATS SHOW HOW PATRIOTIC THEY ARE ,HENCE I AM TRUE AFRICAN AND PURE GHANAIN,I LOVE GHANA,AHAA DID U SAID I LIED ABOUT MY SCHOOL I HAVE NEVER LIED TO YOU SO WHY DONT YOU CALL AND FOUND OUT AND IF YOU ARE IN SCHOOL ,GIVE ME YOUR SCHOOL NUMBER TO CALL OR YOUR INFO ,IT BEEN NICE TALKING TO YOU COS YOU GIVE OUT IRRELEVANT ISSUES ,AND DENYING PEOPLE OF THEIR CITIZENSHIP ,SORRY AM NOT WHAT YOU THINCK AM AN AFRICAN !

YOU'RE TOO s****d
IgboQueen | 8/13/2010 5:30:43 AM
YOU'RE WAY TOO s****d FOR YOUR OWN GOOD. YOU REASON LIKE A 12 YEAR OLD. NO MY 12 YEAR OLD COUSINS HAVE MORE SENSE THAN YOU.
i never said you were white, i never called you an oyinbo, I SAID YOU ARE MIXED RACE! ARE YOU NOT? I said you have oyinbo blood. DONT YOU HAVE WHITE BLOOD?
you can still see yourself as Ghanaian, who cares. but you are mixed race, therefore you do not count.
you're brain is really dead.
Instead of saying you are in the states, or the UK you should have said you are in Italy, France, or even Spain. that would at least give an excuse for your terrible English. how can you grow up in an English speaking country but your grammar is terrible? YOU ARE A BLOODY LIAR. you probably havent even left the shores of Ghana or maybe just got a Visa 2 years ago (maybe ready to expire)
MY FAMILY OWNS A TON OF PROPERTY IN NIGERIA TOO, SO?

BOTTOM LINE: YOU ARE NOT LIVING IN GHANA (AS YOU CLAIM) YOU ARE LIVING IN THE WHITE MAN'S LAND.
IF GHANA IS SO GREAT, GO BACK THERE! IN FACT, YOUR WHOLE FAMILY SHOULD PACK BACK TO GHANA AND YOU JOIN THEM. ISN'T GHANA HEAVEN ON EARTH?
HISSSSSSS! continue deceiving yourself.

this is not an essay writing class, this is not school, so i will write however i want to. But YOU on the other hand use incorrect tenses, wrong spelling, poor sentence structure. where are the commas and periods where they are supposed to be?
that is something you lack terribly and is a dead give away of the level of education you received. probably stopped at primary 6. bush bush!

LIKE I SAID,I DONT WANT TO TALK TO YOU, I DONT WANT TO SEE YOU, I DONT CARE TO SEE YOU. THIS IS JUST THE INTERNET, YOU DUMB b***h.
NOW GO BACK TO SUCKING YOUR PROFESSOR'S DICK.
(thats if you're even in school)
