Segun Arinze
National President of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria, AGN, Segun Arinze, has told upcoming actors in the industry to shun any filmmaker that demands money from them for audition.
Arinze said the Coalition of Nollywood Guilds and Associations, CONGA, is ready to fight for actors who are being exploited in their bid to feature in films.
He said that, henceforth, any AGN member that indulges in such act will be suspended.
“We have confronted a marketer that did an audition a few days ago and compelled all the actors to buy his movie for N1000. That is exploitative and we won’t take it. Some of these young actors can’t even afford their three square meals, so we all need to support them,” Arinze said.

I went for an audition just last week in portharcourt and we were ask to pay the some of two thousand naira. Not only that we were asks to pay Ten thousand in order to be part of the industry, so that when ever there is any film to shout, we will be contacted for it. Am much confuse. My dear upcoming artistes the worst thing that can happen to you is to take a wrong advice. The fact that Segun Arinze is a star does not mean that he is the lord of nollywood. If go to an audition and they ask you to pay try and find out why you should pay. Some upcoming production houses contribute money to sponsor their films and if the payment is to join them i dont see that as a wrong idea. The AGN you hear is not nollywood but one of the Actors Guild in Nollywood so it is not in position to tell other Guilds or Producers how to operate. My advice to you as an upcoming artiste is join a production house or a producer that is the only way to make it in this industry. The people you see on screen as stars we producers made them and they rely on us so that cant help you in any way. They tell you not to pay in auditions while they come to us and buy their ways so that we will be given them jobs. Be wise my people.
