Ama K. Abebrese Nominated for GUBAA

(HOLLYWOOD, Sept. 2, 2010) – Much anticipated psycho-drama “Sinking Sands” lead actress Ama K. Abebrese received a Ghana United Kingdom Bases Achievement Award (GUBAA) nomination for Best Media Personality.

Organized by Nudent, the annual awards show was created to celebrate all that is best about Ghanaian business and personalities in the United Kingdom, acknowledging their achievements and hard work.

“It’s an absolute delight to be nominated in this category among such a talented group of people,” commented Ama K. “This nomination alone is a wonderful recognition, and I am humbled by it. “

The only woman nominated in her category, Ama K.’s nomination is based on her hosting signature talk show “On the Sofa,” which is also nominated for Best TV Programming. The Ghanaian-born British presenter began her showbiz career on the little screen at YCTV (Youth Culture Television) in 1997, where she caught her big break when she interviewed Hollywood-great Harrison Ford, and later moving on to OBE TV as a regular personality during her seasoned career.

Ama K. took the step to transition from television to big screen landing her first lead role in a film as Pabi, the wife of Jimah, played by Hollywood actor/model Jimmy Jean-Louis in “Sinking Sands,” which tells the story of a couple, in a loving marriage that turns into one of violence and abuse when Jimah becomes disfigured in a domestic accident.

“I have recently switched to film and that has opened another exciting path of my career. As a lover of performing and visual arts, I have been privileged to use my talents in front and behind the camera, and I am enjoying every moment of it.”

Africa Movie Academy Award-nominated director and writer of “Sinking Sands” is proud of Ama K’s accomplishments and is happy she recognized Ama K’s talent.

Leila said, “I congratulate Ama K. and am not surprised at her nomination. Ama is one of the most talented of our time today. It was a pleasure directing her, and I am proud of and for her.”

Financed through The David Djansi Memorial Film Fund and its Australian associates, the “Sinking Sands” is produced by Turning Point Pictures, LLC and distributed by Neoclassic Films Studios. It will premiere Nov. 13, in Accra Ghana.
