TODAY, a conference of stakeholders in the Nigerian film industry, The Future of Development Film in Africa II, begins at the Eko Hotel, Lagos. Orgainsers, Communicating for Change (CFC) and its partners which include World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Geneva, Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), Nigerian Film & Video Censorship Board (NFVCB), Pan African University, and the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) inform that the conference provides a professional and legal framework for financiers, small and mediumsized film entertainment businesses, and legal practitioners to expand their network of contacts with international bankers, copyright experts, entertainment investors, film directors, producers, distributors, as well as with Oscar- winning film makers. The conference is being supported with a grant from the Ford Foundation, as well as many corporate entities including MTN, First City Monument Bank, and Strachan Partners. Conference Theme is ‘Best Practices in the Nigerian Film Industry.’ It is a three-day event which ends on Wednesday night with a gala night. The first WIPO Creativity Award Presentation in Nigeria will be made during the Gala dinner. Speakers include Ms. Andrea Calderwood (UK) – Producer of Oscar winning film Last King of Scotland, Mr. Ezra Doner (US), Pulitzer Prize winning Journalist and Publisher, Mr. Dele Olojede; Prof. Pat Utomi; Engr. Ernest Ndukwe; Rob Aft (US) Mr. Tunde Kelani; Mr. Toyin Subair, Ms Donna Ghelfi (WIPO Switzerland), Ms. Marisella Ouma (Kenya) among others.
