Hello everyone, my name is Mimi and I have been visiting this site for a while now and also noticed by the comments that I am not the only Mimi that comes here. Some days ago, I posted a comment on a post “GENEVIEVE EXCLUSIVE” and the author deleted my comment. So what does an opinionated mad black woman do? I picked up the phone (yes I did!) and called the web site Administrator who was so generous to let me express my views. THANK YOU SIR!

Before I start, I would like to stress that I do not personally know the parties involved, and merely basing my assessments on the articles posted on this site, in addition to my common sense which I hope some of you would share in at the end of my article. I would also like to note that I am neither a writer, nor aspiring to be one and ask you to forgive my lack of writing skills.

Louise Brandeis once said that “Sunlight is the best disinfectant”, and I would like to shine the light on Joy Ocloo and her sidekick Leila Djansi. These two little people in my opinion have been spreading their propaganda for a while now, and I would like to address it. If you are not familiar with this story, please read the following articles posted on this site and the comments after them to understand where I am coming from. TURNING POINT REPLIES TO GENEVIEVE NNAJI – 07/18/08; I AM DISAPOINTED WITH THE FILM INDUSTRY- LEILA DJANSI – 10/24/08; EXCLUSIVE: GENEVIEVE- THE FINAL STRAW – 06/07/09.

About a year ago, Joy and company posted articles claiming that Genevieve lost 12millions in a movie deal to Ini Edo because of her
“arrogance and rudeness”. There were allegations that she (Genevieve) after agreeing to appear in a movie refused to pick phone calls, refused to send in her demo tapes, updated pictures and costume measurements. According to one article, Genevieve missed out on being a SAG member, being on the Oprah Winfrey Show and other perks that come with being in a Hollywood movie.

Ini Edo was now cast to play the role, got the money, got her picture (old picture BTW) on the web site and is losing weight for the role. Now since Genevieve did not sign a contract and received no money, that should do it right? everybody is happy….well not exactly. Genevieve on her part gave an interview where she claimed that (Djansi and co) were unprofessional, not “Hollywood” as they claimed
and “bombarded” her with phone calls trying to be friends etc. Ever since, Joy Ocloo keeps coming back with this story which always has to point out how arrogant and uneducated Genevieve is, and off course the many comments from her camp on her “teenage pregnancy”.

I have also noticed that Joy uses the same kind of rhetoric on Jackie Appiah at any given chance. I am not a Genevieve Nnaji apologist, and
hate to be defending her because I could write a whole article on how stuck up she is based on her interviews and public personae. However, there is something to be said about how this young woman has managed to get herself to the top against odds.

Teenage pregnancy can be a death sentence in our society where people are judged only by their mistakes, yet she has made something
of herself even without an education. That my friends has to be admired.

On Leila Djansi, I personally find it hard to believe that any serious director from any part of the world would invest this amount of time and energy trying to destroy a nameless and faceless person like Genevieve.

A “Hollywood” production postponed because Genevieve dropped out and Ini Edo has to loose weight, In what world?!

The new story now is that “Ms Djansi won’t shoot the movie until the negative publicity dies down” Let me get this straight, A Hollywood movie involving a “Paramount executive” will not shoot because of negative publicity from WHOM?! Julia Roberts? Halle Berry maybe? or perhaps Meryl Streep? WHO ON EARTH is Genevieve Nnaji?!

There are so many young and talented girls from all over the world who would show up at an audition in Hollywood, yet Genevieve was given the role without an audition on tape or in person.

When she REFUSED to send in a demo, you went and bought her Nigerian movies to show executives in “Hollywood” Where do you people get the audacity to air this kind of nonsense? Who do you think reads these posts anyway? a bunch of two-year olds? The whole consideration of this delusional story is very offensive to those of us who have some regard to the truth and the knowledge of how things work in a civilized world.

You are so wrapped up in your Hollywood la-la land, you don’t seem to notice how ridiculous you come across. And SO WHAT! if she pulled out, move on. Johnny Depp was offered the role in Titanic, he didn’t like the script, yet Titanic went on to become one of the biggest movies ever made, and Johnny Depp also became one of the biggest movie stars ever. She did not sign a contract and you did not pay her, GET OVER IT.

As for you Ms Joy Ocloo, you once referred to yourself as a harsh critic, which is fine except that you are far too unintelligent and inarticulate in your posts to be one.

There is a big difference between constructive criticism and the ugly personal attacks, which always seem to target the same people all the time.

You want to bash people like Genevieve and Jackie all the time, hitting below the belt all the time but you don’t have the maturity to post objective comments.

If you were so educated, how come all you talk about is Jackie and Genevieve the same people you call uneducated? Why don’t you in your intellectual superiority address challenging subject matters?

Why doesn’t our very own Harvard grad tackle more complex issues?

What is it about your performance on this site that proves you are actually educated?

Because you said so?

Because you are in America?

Well my Grandfather (bless his soul) used to always say “Take monkey abroad, monkey it is”!

The truth of the matter is you wish you were these girls, and since you can’t compare to them, you hate and convince your sad little head you’re better, to help you sleep at night.

How sad! You have a wonderful little opportunity here to practice and be good at what it is that you do, for even bigger and better things ahead. Instead you choose to live in a sad little world where rational and decency is traded for envy, bullying and hatred. SHAME ON YOU!

I have my own criticisms of the industry, and have no problem with that. For instance, I think people like Ini Edo, Emeka Ike, Jackie Appiah and a few others have no business acting. I cannot sit through most of their movies, because I believe that there is more to acting than the constant display of excess skin, plastic hair, fake accent, ill-fitted and flashy clothes etc… and that is just my humble opinion.

I reserve that strictly to the movies and interviews they give because I am not in the business of preaching intolerance of people whose lives I know nothing about.

And while they (these actors) don’t do it for me, I respect the fact that a lot of people appreciate and love their work. Besides, the fact that these young people take advantage of these opportunities to better their lives and the lives of their families, is something we ought to celebrate.

We don’t all have to be Ivy League grads, most of Hollywood isn’t. Beyonce did not even graduate high school, and can’t speak a word of English to save her life but very successful at what she does. Oprah Winfrey had a child as a teenager, and went on to be the most influential and powerful woman alive.

People get out of jail, ghettos and all kind of situations to make it to the top. Why the obsession with Genevieve?

Finally, my point is, until this Hollywood blockbuster is filmed and released, Ms Djansi you need to find some Hollywood stars like Nicole Kidman to direct.

And you Joy need to go to a real school to learn how to write and communicate without being so primitive and vile. What you do here is an embarrassment to the institution of learning, and your ignorance, my friend, is very offensive to those of us who think.

All comments are welcome, and thank you for your time.
