Team Nigeria’s Seun Adigun and Akuoma Omeoga on Wednesday at PyeongChang in South Korea ended the country’s historic first-time participation in the 2018 Winter Olympics by finishing last in their event.

The duo placed 20th in the 20-team women’s bobsleigh event with a total time of 3 minutes 29.60 seconds after four runs.

They had run 52.21 and 52.55 in heats one and two respectively on Tuesday, the opening day of the event, to start off unsteadily and stay in bottom position in the competition.

Their performance in heats three and four on Wednesday failed to change their position, with runs of 52.31 and 52.53 respectively, culminating in a total of 3:29.60.

Germany’s Mariama Jamanka and Lisa Buckwitz won gold at 3:22:45, while Elana Meyers Taylor and Lauren Gibbs of the U.S. took silver, posting a time of 3:22:52.

Canada’s Kaillie Humphries and Phylicia George won bronze at 3:22:89.

Hosts South Korea finished 15th in the competition after Kim Yoo-ran and Kim Min-seong posted a combined time of 3:25.31 seconds after their four heats at the Olympic Sliding Centre.

At the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, bobsleigh events consist of four heats over two consecutive days, with two heats per day.

The team with the shortest aggregate time gets the gold medal.
