Mr Muhammad Babandede, Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, has disclosed that the cost of acquiring a Nigerian international passport is likely to rise in the nearest future.

He made this revelation in Abuja at the flag off ceremony for the capacity building programme on Information Communication Technology organised for immigration officers in conjunction with Huawei Technologies Company. According to Babandede,

“It is not easy for us to pay for booklets because of the cost. You will agree with me that air tickets have doubled in this country. You are aware that a lot of things have changed, but the passport fees have not changed.”

He stated that Nigeria Immigration Service has written to the presidency to propose a hike and will proceed with a review of the price once approval is received. This proposed increase, Babandede revealed, will enable the agency to deliver better service.
