Breaking news suggests that Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West senatorial district has reportedly just been abducted as he was on his way to Kogi state to answer to charges brought against him in court by the Nigeria Police.

This was just made known on Twitter by Senator Ben Murray Bruce who tweeted through his handle @BenMurrayBruce that the senator was abducted after unknown gunmen in a Sienna vehicle blocked his car.

Murray Bruce tweeted, I have just been informed by moses melaye the brother of @dinomelaye that Dino has been abducted by unknown persons in a Toyota Sienna that blocked their car and overpowered them on their way to Kogi to answer to Dino’s court case. let’s be on the watch, will keep you updated”


Dino Melaye had been arraigned in a Kogi court by the police for alleged possession of illegal arms and arming thugs. A lot of drama had ensued as Dino alleged political persecution by the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.

Dino had refused to go to Kogi citing threat to his life and was subsequently arrested by the police by force; in the ensuing drama Dino had jumped down from a moving police vehicle which led the police to slam charges of attempted suicide on the Senator.

He was also charged with attempt to escape from lawful custody and damage of police property. Dino pleaded not guilty and was granted bail to the tune of N5million and sureties in like sum.

The senator is among the senators that have recently decamped from the All Progressives Congress, APC to the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

15 APC senators defected, while 37 lawmakers defected from the party on the floor of the National Assembly yesterday. Governor Ortom of Benue State Also defected to the PDP after pressure from the youths in his state.
