Popular Nigerian comedian, actor, skit maker and political activist, Debo Adebayo, more easily recognised as Mr Macaroni has come to decline the invite of the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s ‘walk of peace’, that he says its to champion the unity and peace of Lagos state.

Governor who had earlier on Tuesday disclosed that his government was going to release a white paper report on the events of the #EndSARS Lekki Tollgate massacre. He made this announcement while ensuing for peace and harmony.

But in response to this statement and invited by the Governor, the comic cum socio-activist released a series of tweets, saying he wasn’t in the need to lose weight or go on a diet walk with Governor, while noting that the last time he came out for a walk with the youths he was brutalised, dehumanised, stripped naked, and bundled like a thief into a police black van all for what reason just because he spoke up for the rights of the average Nigerian and against police brutality.

In a series of tweets Mr Macaroni shared on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, he called on the government to implement the recommendation by the panel to build trust from its people.

Sanwo-Olu had in his press briefing on the Endsars panel report, invited Folarin Falana (Falz), Debo Adebayo (Mr. Marcaroni), Dele Farotimi, Temitope Majekodunmi, Segun Awosanya (Segalinks), Adedotun (Just Detoun), Seun Kuti; Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, and Commander of Rapid Response Squad, RRS, CSP Yinka Egbeyemi and others to join him in the “historic march”.

But in a riposte on his verified Twitter handle, Marcaroni argued that ‘genuine peacemaking will begin by first implementing the recommendations of the panel’.

@mrmacaronii: I humbly decline the Invitation of Mr Governor. The Government themselves set up a panel. The panel has made recommendations. I believe that genuine peacemaking will begin by first implementing the recommendations of the panel. Then we can begin to trust the government.

On his own, Mr Folarin Falana, aka Falz, described Sanwo-Olu’s invitation as a joke, nothing that it is disrespectful to invite him for a peace walk, while justice has not been served since the alleged killing of protesters at Lekki Toll Gate.

His words: @falzthebahdguy: This suggestion of a “walk for peace” sounds like a joke and a very disrespectful one at that.

“People were murdered in cold blood and absolutely no iota of justice has been served more than a year after. How can there be peace without justice ? #EndSARS”.

Other notable public figures such as Omoyele Sowore have rejected the walk, saying justice must begin with the implementation of the panel report.
