THE Director-General, Kano state Censorship Board, Malam Abubakar Rabo has said that the board will engage in film production and publication of books that will be highlighting the state government's efforts on societal changes.
He disclosed this during the conferment of merit awards by Centre of Promoting Shar'ia in Nigeria with the headquarters in Zaria, Kaduna state, held at Imam Wali Hall, Gwarzo Road, Kano, Saturday.
Malam Rabo said the board decided to bring changes in the film industry in the state, adding that already, the board has started preparations for the production of films that will focus on the tradition and culture of Islam, with a view to discouraging the current Western films being copied by the local film industry.
He condemned the Nigerian film industry for giving priority to Western culture that is contrary to Islam, adding that such films have assisted in denting Islamic culture.
The director general also said film practitioners in the state have misunderstood government's mission towards the film industry, adding that since the establishment of the board by the present government, it has achieved success in film production in the state.
He urged film producers to support government’s efforts in sanitizing the industry through providing quality films that will promote the culture and tradition of Islam and thanked the centre for its encouragement towards boosting his morale.
