Preparations for the Taraccotta Awards, the first ever Nigerian Film and Television awards in the country is in top gear as the organisers hosted the nominees and sponsors to a corporate nite in preparation for the main award slated for July 18th 2010 at the grand ball room of the prestigious Eko Hotels and Suits Lagos. The sponsorship nite is tagged ‘The Corporate Nigeria Nite’ an initiative of Classic Events, the owners of Tarracotta Awards. According to the organsiers, the award is aimed at celebrating excellence in talents and creativity in the Nigerian Film And Television industry. And the theme of the award is “Imagine Life Without Television.” The major sponsors of the award according to our source include Pan Africa, a Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited Company with the support of Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), Talent Associates Nigeria Limited, Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), Federal Ministry of Information and Communication, Voice of Nigeria (VON) and the Film Directory (TFD) etc. The award also has endorsement from Independent Television Producers Association of Nigeria (ITPAN) and Zuma. In an interview, the executive producer/CEO, Mr. Ayodeji Adedeji, said the purpose for the presentation was to seek the support of corporate bodies in the execution of the first Nigerian film and television awards. He stressed that “the relevance of the film and television medium cannot be over-emphasised. It is through these channels the information is being disseminated.” According to him “the corporate society realises the relevance considering the commercials being aired on well packaged programme with a view to connecting a wider audience. This is why Tarraccotta deems it necessary to encourage better programming by rewarding excellence in creativity productions.” It will be also interesting to know that the award has been added to the British Film and Television Directories of Festivals having contents in the class of British Film and Television Awards (BAFTA), Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTA) and South Africa Film and Television Awards (SAFTA) etc
