Ibadan-born winger Bobby Adekanye has taken one step closer to making his first-team debut for Liverpool.

The Netherlands youth international made a rare appearance for the Reds U23s on Wednesday night as they reached the final of the Lancashire Senior Cup after hammering Rochdale 6-0.

While Ovie Ejaria and Sheyi Ojo were rested after featuring in the five-goal thriller against Man City on Monday, Adekanye got a taste of action when he was introduced in the 66th minute.

The former Barcelona wonderkid caught the eye at the 2017 Champions Cup held in Dusseldorf, Germany, scoring for Liverpool U19s in their 1-1 draw against Borussia Monchengladbach. Adekanye, who has been hailed as the Nigerian Messi, joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2015
