Nigerian striker and Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua’s striker Obafemi Martins has gone through a successful surgery in the United kingdom.

Martins suffered the drastic injury during the Shanghai Shenhua’s Asian Champions League game against Kashima Antlers which ended 2-2 and his club side eliminated from the competition.

It was announced after the match that the former inter Milan man has suffered a ruptured quadriceps tendon which will sideline him for about 7 months.

His club side shared the good news on their social media platform where they shared a picture of Martins’ on the bed with his right leg heavily strapped.

“Martins had a successful surgery in the UK,” the account wrote.

Martins hope of a possible call up to appear in the Russia 2018 world cup that is about 2 months to kick off was terminated the moment he picked up the injury.

Considering his age that may probably be the last world cup he may have been eligible to play for.

Martins’ has scored a total of three goals in as many as one match in the Chinese super league this season.
