The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele has been summoned by the Senate shortly after the bank’s monetary policy committee (MPC) meeting.

 

The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun was also asked to report at the upper chamber of the national assembly at a date yet to be disclosed.

This summon was necessitated by the current status of the Nigerian economy which was debated on a motion Wednesday as well as the point of order raised by a senator from Akwa Ibom north-east, Bassey Akpan which was in connection with matters of urgent national importance.

Akpan who made his point clear said the economy had slipped into a full-blown‎ recession and it demands immediate solution.

“I wish to draw the attention of this chamber to the statistics of Nigeria Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on the state of Nigerian economy. Statistics have shown that our economy has gone into a full-blown recession,” he had said.
