The Abuja chapter of the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN) is currently at an advanced stage of their plan to publicly promote their latest agitation, titled, 30% or nothing.

This campaign is aimed at sensitizing members of the public, DJs, Show Promoters and other entertainment entrepreneurs, on the essence of the new regulation, which is aimed at reserving a non-negotiable 30% slot for Abuja based music artiste in airplay.

According to the FCT Chairperson of PMAN, Julietta Ofuyeta, the idea is aimed at giving a reasonable platform to the musicians that are resident in the FCT, as against the prevailing situation where artistes from Lagos and other parts of the globe dominate major events and airplay in their territory. In her words; “We are currently reaching out to strategic stakeholders in the entertainment industry in Abuja, through letter writing to introduce the new regulation, because we want them to key into our vision and appreciate the essence of the new regulation, this will be preceded with a massive road show by our members to further sensitize the general public and other members of the Abuja entertainment community, we are also reaching out to stakeholders outside Abuja, the corporate organizations that fund these shows and their agents.

I am however very pleased to say that the idea is receiving a lot of support and encouragement from our colleagues in Lagos, especially the A list artistes, who are proclaiming support for the rule. I thank God and pray that pulls through, as it will go a long way to further promote the Abuja based acts” concludes Julitta. No date has been announced for the road show but they are said to be considering the later part of November.
