It was all smiles and dancing for the elderly in the Home for the Elderly in Port-Harcourt last week as they were remembered and visited. The organizers of the Miss Niger Delta Pageant Nigeria paid a courtesy visit to the aged as part of their pet project to celebrate the lovely season of Valentine. It was a big event that witnessed Individuals, Schools, Government departments, comedians and live band performers that trooped in with gift items ranging from Ankara materials, food stuffs, toiletries and beverages. The performers lively up the atmosphere of the event with their music while the comedians keep putting smiles and laughter on the faces of the aged and people present.

Speaking to journalists at the occasion, the President of the Miss Niger Delta Organization, Prince Sodin Akiagba explained that the central objective of the organization which started since 1999 and has produced 9 beauty pageants is to promote peace, unity, and socio-cultural tourism through beauty pageants. “Visiting the Home for the Elderly is part of our pet project which gives the reason why the elderly should cared for”, he added.

Present at the event were the Miss Niger Delta 2009 / 2010, Excellence Amadi, her second runner up, Faith Gariga, also the Miss Niger Delta in Diaspora 2009 / 2010, Barbra Bright and Ex- Miss Ogba, now Mrs. Esther Wokocha, they all expressed their joys and excitement identifying with the aged which goes a long way of reminding them that they are not forgotten. The beauty queens took pictures and danced with the elderly with glee. The Occasion was supported by Patience Amachree’s Amazing Treats and Niger Delta Standard Newspaper.
