A former Super Eagles of Nigeria star, Kanu Nwankwo has dismissed claims regarding his plan to run for president. A report concerning his interest on the 2019 president election started to gain ground on the first of April after Goal.com published an article confirming the interest of the Champions League winner to rule the country.

Goal wrote an ‘April Fools’ article revealing that the former Super Eagle was inspired to follow in George Weah’s footsteps to help provide a better life for the nation.

Multiple Nigerian news outlets however publicised the story reporting it as true.

In a recent interview, Kanu stated his shock with how the story was reported. He said, “This is meant to be a joke but people haven’t seen it that way,”

“I think there is a need to inform them that it is just April Fool.

He went on to discuss his current plans with his influence. He said: “My immediate concern is using my vast contacts and experience to develop the Nigerian youth through sports.

“I also want to keep saving lives through the Kanu Heart Foundation.”

Kanu played 99 times for Nigeria, scoring 20 goals.
