A tanker conveying about 33,000 litres of petrol  enroute the Mile 2 Expressway,Cele busstop  Lagos,was said to have crashed and exploded killing the driver and another man with him on Monday.

The explosion covered about 500 Kilometres destroying several cars and the properties of some road side traders.
Some People in the area sustained various degrees of injuries while scampering for safety. While the identities of the bodies have not been identified.

The driver of the truck was said to have lost control as he swerved from one end of the road to the other bringing about the spilling of some of the product before its actual explosion consuming anything in sight.

The incident happened around 5:30 pm. The men of the Lagos State Fire Service arrived at the scene as they helped to contain the fire.

The accident caused a very heavy traffic which started from Coker Bus Stop to Cele.

Other emergency bodies who came for a rescue mission at the scene of the incident were: National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Lagos State Fire Service, the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) and the police who maintained law and order.

Confirming the incident was the Spokesman of Lagos State Fire Service, Rasaq Fadipe, who said that not less than six fighting trucks were deployed to control the wild fire.

In his words,”The serious outbreak of fire in Cele area was caused by massive petrol spillage into drainage. Six fire trucks were mobilised to control the fire.”
