It was a sad evening yesterday for the people of Tundunwada area of Lugbe, a satellite town in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja when a transformer exploded and electrocuted six persons, leaving four other people in a critical situation.

It was gathered that the transformer belonging to Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC burnt for 10minutes discharging electrical current to some residential areas.

A pregnant woman who was part of the victims of the shock was said to have newly moved to the area. She was electrocuted when she wanted to switch off the fan, the son said.

The community’s chief security officer, Geoffrey Ukeje, slammed the AEDC for the tragic incident by saying that it was because the connection was wrongly done by the power firm.

Mr. Oyebode Fadipe, the Head, Corporate Communications and Community Relations, AEDC who confirmed the incident on Tuesday said investigation about the cause of the explosion is ongoing.

“The incident happened around 9pm on Saturday; four persons injured about six persons died.”

Speaking about the compensation for the family of the victims, Fadipe refused to comment on it. He insisted that he would only speak on it after investigation is completed.
