According to TimesLive, the legendary singer Yvonne Chaka Chaka, plans to return to school and study public health at Harvard or John Hopkins University.

She reportedly has made education one of her goals, and has been encouraging her government to do more to help make it easier for students who are studying through initiatives to improve sanitation and classrooms in schools.

And during a recent sit-down with TimesLive, she said she was also leading by example by applying to study at two top schools in America. “Education plays a special role in my life. I mean, I continued studying. I am applying to do my public health (degree) at either Harvard or John Hopkins (in Baltimore, Maryland). I don’t want to talk about it too much because if I have to drop out, I will be miserable,” she said.

Ma Yvonne, as she is affectionately called, was recently honoured with a honorary doctorate degree in law (LLD) from Rhodes University. She had received a honorary degree from UKZN in 2012. “I couldn’t go to Rhodes (to attend the graduation ceremony) because I was in Senegal. So they had a special ceremony for me in Johannesburg. It was quite humbling. I don’t make music for accolades. I do it because if I don’t do it, who will? I am just trying to do my bit,” she added.

We can’t wait to see her go back to school!
