A woman has given birth to a baby who is so large that he is said to be two times the size of a newborn baby.

The baby boy weighed more than 16lbs

A woman has given birth to a massive 16lb and 4oz baby, Metro UK reports.

The boy, born to a mum in New Zealand, measured 57cm long and is almost double the size of the average new born.

While doctors had initially predicted the baby would be large, both medics and his parents were shocked at his size.

The boy was born by caesarean section at Wellington Hospital after it took doctors three hours to administer the epidural.

The parents preferred not to be identified, though the baby boy’s father told Stuff.co.nz: ‘We are not that tall ourselves, so we are not sure where his size comes from.’

Their older son weighed 11.8lbs at birth.

Although the Kiwi infant seems huge, the Guinness World Record is still held by 23lb 9oz baby born to Canadian giantess Anna Bates.

Bates has held the record for 138 years.
