Report making the rounds has it that Tin-Can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service intercepted container of “READY TO EAT FOODS” like Egusi Soup, Jollof Rice, Ogbono, Yam Porridge imported from India.

Accorrding to the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Bashar Yusuf who confirmed the report as he described the whole action as an “aberration” considering the fact that government granted zero duty for the importation of machinery for the packaging of agricultural products.

He noted that the container containing the prepared food has been handed over to officials of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control.

Yusuf who is so crossed about the incidence said in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Mr. Uche Ejesieme, “Why should indigenous menu be imported into the country at a time when investors are much sought after to boost local industries.

It is really disheartening that in a time like this when people should be encouraged to export products they are rather importing into the country locally made goods.
