Mr Izam Azi, the Plateau State Head of Service has said on Tuesday that the State Civil Service has over 4,000 vacancies but the absence of man power was a very big factor affecting the maximal output of service.
He said this during the monthly media briefing organized by the State’s Ministry of Information and Communication, in Jos.
In his words, “At the moment, we have an embargo on employment in the State that is yet to be lifted.
“We are still working on the BVN of staff as well as the physical verification of workers in the State. I believe that when we are able to conclude this assignments, the issue of employment would be looked into.
“But in the meantime, my office has started generating the number of vacant positions in the ministries, departments and agencies; and so far, we have collected from 44 MDAs a total of 4, 798 vacant positions that are available. Because on a daily basis, people are retiring, because we have over 70 MDAs and we are still expecting the other MDAs to respond.
“I believe that this government will look into this issue of employment, because even in the Civil Service now we lack key man power.”
He said that the promotion of about 5,858 civil servants have been processed and released by the joint efforts of the office of the Head of Service and the Civil Service Commission.
“The office of the Head of Service is also facilitating the implementation of the new Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) which is expected to address the problems associated with the old system,” he added.
