Tomisin Adewumi won the Best Model award at the M-Net reality show in 2008. She has been making waves in the modelling industry since then. She told YEMISI ADENIRAN why she loves modelling.

At what point did you realise your flair for modelling?

I have always seen myself as a model and I have always been into it unconsciously. What I mean by this is that like every other woman, I love staying in front of the mirror for hours admiring myself and posing in different ways. All the while, however, I never thought of taking it up as a serious job. Even when everyone would tell me that I was a prospective model, I still wouldn’t see it so. But in my second year at the university, I decided to take it up formally. I therefore registered with a modelling agency.

How would you describe the experience so far?

It has been fun and at the same time tasking. When I first started, my parents did not know and getting modelling jobs was very hard. Managing all of these with my studies was really hard. I was studying Economics. At Ife, Economics is usually more tasking than the popular Business Administration.

I got my first breakthrough when I had my first fashion show. When my father saw this, he was not happy and thought I was going to abandon my education. He would have stopped me outrightly, but for the agreement we had that I would only be modelling during the holidays.

How have you been able to maintain your slim shape over the years?

Like I always tell people, modelling is no joke. It entails a lot of hard work and discipline. You must be smart to be able to communicate with the camera, learn to catwalk, maintain and improve your appearance which again needs a lot of caution. You have to watch what you eat, drink and all of that. You need a glowing skin to complement your slim nature. As for me I’m just blessed because I eat anything I like and get away with it.
