There’s No End To Discrimination Against Female Entertainers – Real Warri Pikin

Comedienne, Anita Osuoha, aka Real Warri Pikin, has disclosed that there is no end to discrimination against women in the entertainment industry.

While sharing some of the challenges, she said, “A female entertainer would always face discrimination, regardless of how much awareness is done. One just has to live with it. There are some people that would always say one is not supposed to be doing what one is doing. Many times, when I make a post on social media, people give different opinions. Some would say a woman should not act the way I do or, while some would say I talk too loudly. However, I have learnt to live with things like that, because if one wants fame, one has to take everything that comes with it.”

Furthermore, she called for more participation of women in the industry saying, “It is mainly about how we see ourselves. Speaking from my experience, when I started doing stand-up comedy, many people bashed me online, because I am a woman. It would be great for women to rise above those stereotypes and not bother about the distraction or the narrative that they are women.”

Advising women in the industry on handling different roles in their lives, Osuoha said, “No woman can be an island, so she needs a support system. Even if they don’t have a husband or kids, they still need a team behind them. I have learnt to delegate activities to some of the people I work with. My husband and children support me a lot.”
