According to information reaching Nigerian Tribune, the much anticipated movie ‘Half of a Yellow Sun,’ will soon be heating the Nigerian cinemas in a couple of weeks.

It was gathered that the movie which was restricted due to some scenes which the Nigerian Censors Board stopped its release has been re-edited and will be out soon.

The movie which is an adaptation of the novel Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, published in 2006 by Knopf/Anchor, has the likes of Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Genevieve Nnaji, OC Ukejie, among others.

Many commentators on social media believe that the censors are afraid that tribal rivalries could be inflamed if the movie is shown in theatres across Africa’s most populous nation.

It is partly set during the 1967-1970 Nigerian civil wars when the South-east sought to break away from the federation, and it comes at a time when Nigeria is threatened by an Islamic uprising in the North-east, threatening the unity between the mainly Muslim north and predominantly Christian south.
