A Nigerian-US based model, Nneoma Anosike, has dragged Wema Bank PLC to a Federal High Court for allegedly using her photos for commercial purposes without her consent. The 22-year old model slammed the bank with N97 million as damages.

 

Premium Times reported that Nneoma explained that the bank on April 11, 2016, used her photo for a commercial on Instagram, without her consent or from Ford Models Inc, her American management company.

She asked that Wema bank pays her N75 million for allegedly passing off her services and N20 million for the breach of her privacy by advertising her private property.

She also asked that the bank and other organizations be restrained from using her professional services without her consent.

She demanded that Wema Bank publishes a written apology in two national dailies in Nigeria and in the U.S. and N2 million as the cost of filing the suit.

Nneoma explained that she lost a contract renewal with Ford Models Inc as a result of Wema bank’s action.

Wema bank, however, in their defense explained that they were not aware that the model was in a contract with the American company adding that they got her picture from Instagram and it was used for educational purposes and not commercial.

The matter was adjourned till June 15 for further hearing.
